On 27 April works began to prepare the medical block before various services, including the urgent care centre and paediatrics,

move into the building later this summer. Although the services will ultimately be located in the new hospital, due for completion in 2018, in

the meantime patients and staff will benefit from a general refurbishment of the block and construction of a new waiting room.

Moving the services this summer means that construction work on the new hospital can begin next year with minimal disruption to patients, staff and visitors. All services will remain open through the construction works.

Services that are due to move into medical block this summer include the urgent care centre, the paediatric assessment unit and children’s out-patients, gynaecology out-patients, colposcopy and maternity out-patients. Some services, including the older persons’ assessment unit and lung functions, are planned to move into Highlands in July.

Plans of which services will be located where within the medical block can be found in the redevelopment hub at Chase Farm, and when we have exact dates for the service moves these will be communicated. The latest updates can be found on the website: www.royalfree.nhs.uk/chasefarm.

The redevelopment project team will be working closely with the services which are due to move to ensure that disruption to patients and staff is kept to an absolute minimum. If you have any concerns please contact us at [email protected] or visit the Chase Farm redevelopment hub in front of the Clocktower building.

The diabetes centre has recently been refurbished, as have various benches around the site, and repainting has taken place in the Clocktower building. Additional works, including cycle storage improvements, will be carried out over the course of the year.

We are also making significant changes to the signage on site as we recognise that this is in need of improvements which cannot wait until the new hospital is complete. If you have any suggestions regarding other improvements that you think are needed please email [email protected].

In addition to relocating services, the trust is continuing to invest in the existing facilities to improve the staff and patient experience.

Chase Farm redevelopment away day On 16 April 101 staff from across all departments attended a Chase Farm Hospital redevelopment away day, giving them the opportunity to hear about the project’s progress, give their feedback on the current design plans and provide input for the next stage of work.

During the day attendees were able to view a 3D model of the new hospital and examine full scale plans of potential room layouts. There were also demonstrations of some of the latest technology and software that could improve the hospital’s efficiency, discussions around workforce requirements and suggestions for further ways to communicate progress to staff. The new plans will be made public online and in the redevelopment hub once they have been finalised.

Adelaide ward has moved from the medical block to a new home opposite Capetown ward on the ground floor of the Highlands wing.

The move is in line with the commitment to make improvements to the existing hospital while the new hospital is constructed. Patients and staff at Adelaide ward are now benefiting from an improved environment and a location that is better integrated within the rest of the hospital.

In the past if patients required a diagnostic test such as x-ray they had to be transported outside the building, even when cold or rainy. This problem has now been addressed and patients can now be transported to x-ray or other diagnostic areas without having to go outside. In addition staff feel less isolated, particularly at night when they finish shifts.

Redevelopment hub welcomes 300th visitor The Chase Farm redevelopment hub, which opened its doors last month following the meeting of Enfield planning committee on 12 March, has now welcomed over 300 visitors.

The hub, which provides information about the new hospital, is in front of the Clocktower building at the hospital and is open between midday and 4pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Visitors can inspect the plans, ask questions and leave feedback.

Feedback to date has been positive, with visitors particularly welcoming the investment in new facilities, the provision of new primary school places in the area and the improvement to the hospital’s energy efficiency.

As well as inviting visitors to the hub, we are running a series of tours around the site led by Chase Farm Hospital director Fiona Jackson.

Upcoming tour dates:

Thursday 2 July at 4pmFriday 10 July at 2pmThursday 16 July at 3.30pmFriday 24 July at 10am

Friday 30 July at 3pm
