It has been a great 38 years! Honestly, I can-not imagine having spent my career anywhere else than UCO. Twenty-five rewarding years in the classroom and 13 years in administra-tion allowed me a perspective that few others have had. That the institution would entrust me with transforming 5,000 students in the classroom is honor enough, but then to be able to serve as chief academic officer was more than I could have asked.

As I walk off campus there are many things of which I am proud to have been a part. These include growing the number of full-time facul-ty from 371 to 465; creation, along with the support so many others, of the Transformative Learning initiative so that UCO now leads the nation in the development and application of Trans-formative Learning via the Central Six; increasing faculty salaries (if every-thing goes as planned, pay will reach 92% of the national public CUPA this fall); securing additional funds and other resources to advance leadership programs, research and creative activity, civic engagement, global compe-tency and health and wellness. Together we have revised the core curricu-lum, tenure and promotion, and faculty enhancement and compensation structure because it was the right thing to do in the long term to support faculty and therefore, students.

Of course there is always more to do. President Betz has selected Dr. John Barthell as the new provost beginning July 1. Dr. Barthell is up to the task and will bring many things to the position that I could not. Please give him your full support as he advocates for faculty and staff as they help students learn.

I have written my check for a life-time mem-bership to the Emeritus Faculty Association. Therefore I will not say “goodbye” but rather, “see you later”.

The Department of Military Science's Company X-7 recently returned from the national convention of the National Society of Pershing Rifles with multiple awards and accolades. UCO’s Company X-7 was awarded The National Best Company Award. Master Sgt. John Taylor, senior military instructor, also was inducted as an honorary member into the Na-tional Society of Pershing Rifles for his efforts and dedication, one of only 21 people to have received the award.

Kudos Award Winners — From left, John Springer, Ph.D., professor of English; Brian Lamb, D.M.A., professor of Music; Caleb Lack, Ph.D., assis-tant professor of Psychology; Shirletta Kinchen, Ph.D., assistant professor of History and Geography; and Markus Smith, Ph.D., adjunct instructor of Political Science, are all smiles after receiving awards from Central's chap-ter of the American Association of University Professors.

Coach Ginny Stidham, has earned thunderous applause in leading UCO Women’s Softball to victory as the NCAA Division II National Champions! The Bronchos finished the season 51-11, winning the first-ever women’s national title at UCO. See related story on page 4.

The UCO Small Business Development Center (SBDC) received the Oklahoma SBDC Excellence and Innovation Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration at the annual small business luncheon held at the Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City. (Left to right) Carlos Amaya, assistant director, Mickey Hepner, Ph.D., dean of the College of Business, Susan Urbach, director, Pilar Munneke, business development specialist, David Shafer, business development specialist, and Pat Wollenberg, ad-

ministrative secretary attended and accepted the award for UCO. Central Oklahoma's Michael Bond has been named the NCAA Division II Central Region Coach of the Year by the Women's Golf Coaches Association, with Aly Seng and Erica Bensch both earning All-Central Region honors. Bond led the Bronchos to perhaps the best season in school history in 2012-13 with top-five finishes in 10 of their 12 tournaments. UCO won three titles, including the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association crown and its first-ever regional championship, and finished 10th in the Division II national tournament.

Congratulations to Dr. John Barthell, UCO's third provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. Dr. Barthell brings a combination of relevant successful experience, expertise and demonstrated collaborative leadership skills to this role. He is a proven advocate of transformative learning and understands UCO's pivotal dynamic role in the metro and state. He will assume the position July 1 upon Dr. Radke's retirement.

Diane Rudebock, Ed.D., professor of Kinesiology and Health Studies, was named the UCO Healthy Campus Leadership Team Member of the Year for 2012-13. The Peer Health Leadership program is a component of the UCO Wellness Center which provides education, support, and resources to advance the health of students at the University of Central Oklahoma. FINE ARTS FORUM FINE ARTS FORUM FINE ARTS FORUM College of Fine Arts and Design The University of Central Oklahoma invites community members, college musicians and advanced high school band members to join the Edmond LibertyFest Summer Band. The all-volunteer band, under the direction of Brian Lamb, D.M.A., performs patriotic selections, marches and popular works at the “Concert in the Park,” an event that is part of Edmond’s annual 4th of July LibertyFest celebration. “The band has been an annual source of musical fun and inspiration for Edmond community residents, whether they participate by playing in the band or by simply attending the concert. New members and former members are welcomed eagerly and equally to this year’s edition of the group.” said Lamb.

This year’s concert will take place at 7:30 p.m., June 27 on the lawn just north of Mitchell Hall Theater on the UCO campus. There is no cost to participate in the band and auditions are not required. Weekly rehearsals will be held from 7-9 p.m. beginning Monday, June 3 in Room 104 in the UCO School of Music building. Rehearsals will continue every Monday until the concert. For more in-formation or to sign up, contact Lamb at [email protected]. To learn more about Edmond’s LibertyFest celebration, visit www.libertyfest.org.

Central Oklahoma's four-game run to the NCAA Division II national championship in Salem, Va. resulted in a $3,100 donation to the tornado disaster relief efforts in Oklahoma. The Borden Perlmann Insurance Company -- the secondary insurance agent for UCO's athletic department -- donated $100 for every run the Bornchos scored in the tournament to the Red Cross relief efforts in Oklahoma. UCO scored 31 runs, including 14 in a semifinal victory over Armstrong State, and Borden Perl-mann will donate $3,100 to the relief efforts in the name of the UCO softball team. The Bronchos finished the season 51-11 in winning the first-ever women's national title at UCO.

The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) recently signed an exchange program agreement with the original ACM located in Guildford, England. The agreement will provide Central ACM students with opportunities to study with contemporary music experts at the ACM in Guildford. UCO President Don Betz, Ph.D., and Julia Leggett, CEO of the ACM in Guildford, signed the ACM exchange program agreement on May 9 at UCO. Details regarding the agree-ment are currently being finalized with the goal of providing ACM students with the opportunity to study in England in spring 2014.

“This exchange program is going to provide our students with a truly unique and transformative experience,” Scott Booker, CEO of ACM@UCO, said. “The music industry in the U.K. is thriving and has great talent. I am thrilled with the immense opportunities that our students will be provided with through this ex-change program,” he continued.

The original ACM was founded in 1995 and is the world leader in music industry education with schools in the U.K., U.S. and South Africa. Since its inception, the ACM has sought to provide students with the highest caliber music edu-cation and also help them start sustainable careers in the music industry. Numerous successful musicians are alumni of the ACM in Guildford. Most notably Ted Dwane, bassist for Mumford and Sons, English folk rock band.

The ACM@UCO opened its doors to its first class of students in August 2009 on one floor of the Oklahoma Hardware Building in Bricktown on Flaming Lips Alley. Since then, the program has grown to fill three floors of the building and the ACM@UCO Performance Lab, also located in Bricktown. Based on the successful model from the original ACM in England, the ACM@UCO is an innovative music program unlike any other in the U.S., offering an industry-based, “real world” educational experience for those interested in a career in contemporary music. From its location in downtown Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district, the ACM@UCO offers two-year associate degree programs in bass, drums, guitar, keyboard, music business, music production and vocals, with the option to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Technology degree. For further information about the ACM exchange program, contact the UCO Office of International Services at 405-974-2390. To learn more about the ACM@UCO, visit acm.uco.edu or follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ACM.UCO.

New ID Cards Available — New campus ID cards are availa-ble. Faculty and staff have two options: The Bronze Card or The Central ID Visa Check Card. The Bronze Card is free of charge and is available in the ID Card Office, Room 134, Nigh University Center.

The Central Card, available at the MidFirst Bank branch in the Nigh University Center, serves as both an official ID and a debit card. President Betz was presented with the first new card at a special event last month.

Not only is UCO introducing a partnership with Midfirst Bank to provide the Central ID Visa® Check Card, but we are

replacing our entire campus ID card system. Everyone (students, faculty and staff) will need a new Central Card or Bronze Card in order to contin-ue to have access to university services and resources, like the Wellness Center, Chambers Library, or meal plans.
