Nick ReszetarA Journey Through PortraitsOctober 1 - November 8Reception October 24, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

Jansma Gallery at NCCA-Artsplace, 13 E. Main St., Fremont. 231-924-4022. Nick Reszetar earned his masters of fine art from Kendall College of Art and Design.

A selection of portraits will be on display that are a sampling of Nick’s journey to create

100 drawn portraits of his community. “This series must attempt to be representative of the people I meet, that the drawings must represent the proper physiognomy and acute identities of them, and that it must be large in scale to become a regiment of the full range of them,” notes Reszetar.

The difficulty in portraiture is to capture the special pieces, that spark that sets each personality apart. Reszetar’s work in charcoal and mixed media captures the artist’s vision, process and expression with each figure and portrait. In a time of electronic dominance, even in the design and image making arena, the touch of the human hand still holds the true passion, power and mystique.

Nick currently teaches at Eastern Michigan University, Washtenaw Community College, and the Ann Arbor Art Center. He works primarily in drawing, painting, and photography, and has experience with digital work and installation. Much of his current work focuses on drawing the figure, where he questions psychology, identity and interdependence.

Cathryn Amidei WeavingAugust 20 - September 27Reception September 13, 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.Jansma Gallery at NCCA-Artsplace, 13 E. Main St., Fremont. 231-924-4022. Cathryn is from Ypsilanti and is an Associate Professor at Eastern Michigan University. Her work combines design technology with the craftsmanship of hand weaving. She designs and plots her weaving patterns using computerized design software and then hand weaves her patterns using up to eight different shuttles to create weftback weaves and brocade areas in her pieces. Abstract design combined with portrait or figure weaving makes an outstanding impression in Cathryn Amidei’s work.

Cathryn has recently returned from her sabbatical in Nor-way and will be bringing some exciting new work to this exhibition.
