Introduc:on
• Knowledge transla:on gap problem: transfer of new evidence-‐based knowledge to clinical prac:ce takes too long
• Step towards a solu:on: present guidelines in conjunc:on with pa:ent case-‐based stories (Volmar, 2006)
• Focus of this study: to discuss possible ways of integra:ng guidelines with virtual pa:ents

Scenario 1: clinical guideline to virtual pa:ent
1. Selec:on of relevant guideline nodes (linear or branched) 2. Conversion of clinical guideline template to virtual pa:ent guideline using a mapping tool in Bit Pathways (reusable) 3. Entry of the missing afributes (e.g. pa:ent narra:on, forma:ve ques:ons in QTI format) 4. Export to CASUS using MedBiquitous Virtual Pa:ent data format

Summary
• Three proposals for linking clinical guidelines to VPs, with the aim of improving guidelines accessibility were presented: – guidelines as a source for genera:ng virtual pa:ents – guidelines flowchart as a virtual pa:ent progress indicator – guidelines flowchart reconstruc:on as a learning ac:vity in virtual
pa:ent systems
• Preliminary experiences in prac:cal implementa:on of the scenarios were demonstrated on the example of the systems Bit Pathways and CASUS.
• Formal evalua:ons will be carried out by the authors in order to confirm that the scenarios actually improve the adap:on of clinical guidelines.
