Driving times in New Zealand can be deceiving. Although we are a small country, you will need to allow plenty of time to travel between destinations.

The driving times and distances provided allow for the most direct route between locations and are approximate. They allow for variable road conditions, rest stops and fuel stops. Mileage may vary.

We recommend you allow additional time for sightseeing, photo opportunities and meal breaks. New Zealand speed limits vary from 30 kph through to 100 kph on the open road. For most trips we suggest you allow for an average speed of 80kph.

GOLF COurSe, TAuPO NeW ZeALAND WINe

CUSTOMISED HOLIDAYS

Golf If you enjoy golf, you will not be able to come to New Zealand without playing. In New Zealand golf courses are everywhere; from the big cities to the smallest country towns. Best of all, they’re easily accessible. Green fees are remarkably reasonable and visitors are always welcome.

every year, thousands of golfers from around the world come to experience the unique attractions that New Zealand has to offer. A number of new resort courses have been carved out of the dramatic landscape to

complement the already impressive selection of courses around the country. From North to South, there are 385 New Zealand golf courses, including many of a world class standard. It's relatively affordable to play golf in New Zealand, too, with fees at some of our best courses costing less than NZ$100.

If you are interested in adding a visit to a golf course during your time in New Zealand just ask your Pan Pacific Travel consultant and they will take care of the arrangements for you.

Wine Food and wine are essential ingredients to any visit to New Zealand. Throughout the country there are many internationally acclaimed restaurants and throughout the world New Zealand has become recognised as one of the best wine producers.

Many regions in both the North and South Island offer wine trails and opportunities to visit local boutique wineries for either wine tasting at the cellar door, or perhaps enjoy a fabulous lunch while overlooking the vineyards and dramatic scenery beyond.

The team at Pan Pacific have considerable knowledge of the various wineries in New Zealand and can help design your holiday around the best wine regions to visit.

Some of the areas we recommend include:

Hawke’s Bay

On the lower east coast of the North Island, this region includes wineries around Napier and Havelock North and is synonymous with rich and complex chardonnays. The first vines were planted in the mid 19th century by missionaries when the area was first settled, making this New Zealand’s oldest wine region.

red wines now also dominate here with large plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes. The long hot summers and cool winters offer the best weather for growing grapes and, with a latitude of 39.4 south and near the coast, the climate is similar to that of the Bordeaux region in France.

Marlborough

With similar sunshine hours to Hawke’s Bay but cooler temperatures, the grapes in Marlborough, at the top of the South Island, have a longer slower growing period which intensifies the flavour of the wine produced. With over 23,000 hectares of land planted

in vines, this

region accounts for almost 80% of all the wine produced by New Zealand. By far the most popular variety in Marlborough is Sauvignon Blanc, with a distinctive aroma and tangy zest fruit flavours.

The main town in Marlborough is Blenheim which is a great place to stop off for a night to enjoy the region. For travellers touring from Wellington to Christchurch, ask our team about booking an extra night here.

Central Otago

Queenstown in the lower South Island is the perfect place to stay for a few days and visit many of the wineries in the Central Otago region. you will find a delightful range of wineries to tempt your taste buds, many with restaurant facilities affording great views of the surrounding mountain scenery.

Pinot noir is the leading grape variety here and is estimated to account for 70% of all grapes planted in Central Otago.
