The Sabres are 8-8-0 all-time on October 24.

October 24, 1979: The Sabres get points from 11 different players, including three-point efforts from Gilbert Perreault, Jim

Schoenfeld and John Van Boxmeer, as they defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-3 at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium.  THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

Wednesday, only the Washington Capitals had scored first in as many games as Buffalo.

The Sabres entered play Wednesday with the No. 4 power play in the league, converting on a league-high 12 of their 39 power plays

this season (30.8%).

Rasmus Dahlin has recorded 10 points (1+9) through Buffalo’s first 10 games. He has become seventh unique Sabres defenseman

to record at least 10 points in the team’s first 10 games of a season and the first to do so since Brian Campbell (1+10) in 2007-08.

HOT AGAINST NEW YORK

Sam Reinhart has recorded nine points (2+7) in nine games against New York dating back to the beginning of the 2016-17 season.

Kyle Okposo has totaled 20 points (5+15) in his last 20 games against the Rangers.

Conor Sheary scored three goals in three meetings with New York last season.

Colin Miller has recorded four assists in his last four games against the Rangers.

Carter Hutton is 4-1-0 in his career against New York, boasting a .953 save percentage and a 1.48 goals-against average in those

games.  A STRONG STARTWith an 8-1-1 record through the first 10 games of the season, the Sabres have matched their second-best record through 10 games infranchise history, joining the 1975-76 and 2009-10 seasons. The team’s best ever start was a 10-0-0 record to begin the 2006-07season. BACK-TO-BACKTonight’s game opens up Buffalo’s second of 14 sets of back-to-back games this season, which continues tomorrow night at Detroit. The Sabres are 0-1-0 in the first game of back-to-back sets and 1-0-0 in the second game so far this season. Buffalo’s point breakdownin previous back-to-back sets is: four points (0), three points (0), two points (1), one point (0) and zero points (0). HUTTS GOING ON

Carter Hutton has won each of his six games this season and now has wins in seven straight appearances dating back to last

season.

He entered play Wednesday ranked in the top three in the NHL in save percentage (.943), goals-against average (1.65), shutouts (2)

and wins (6).

Hutton earned his first shutout as a member of the Sabres on Oct. 14 vs. Dallas and followed that up by setting a Sabres franchise

record with 47 saves in a shutout on Oct. 17 at Los Angeles, joining Bob Sauve (1979-80) as the second Sabres goaltender to post

two shutouts in his first five games of a season. The shutouts earned him NHL Third Star of the Week honors and helped him set a

personal-best shutout streak of 134:22.

Hutton’s six-game win streak to start the season has matched Martin Biron (2006-07) and Roger Crozier (1975-76) for the third-best

start in franchise history. With a win in his next decision, he’d match Crozier’s 1974-75 start for second-best. The franchise record for

most consecutive wins to begin a season was set by Ryan Miller (8) in 2006-07.  VIC-O MODE

All six of Victor Olofsson’s goals this season have come on the power play, tying James Neal for most in the league entering play

Wednesday. He also led all rookies in goals (6) and points (9), and led rookie forwards in ice time per game (17:40).

Olofsson has recorded nine points (6+3) through 10 games this season. Only three players in franchise history have totaled more

points through the team’s first 10 games of a season as rookies: Rick Martin (1971-72), Phil Housley (1982-83) and Hannu Virta

(1982-83).

Entering play Wednesday, no NHL player had scored more power-play goals than Olofsson’s eight in 16 games played since he

made his NHL debut on March 28, 2019 vs. Detroit. He has set an NHL record by becoming the first player in NHL history to score

each of his first seven-plus career goals with a man advantage.
