Fourth Annual ECCT-ICRT Golf Cup raises NT$500,000 for charity

The European Chamber of Commerce Taipei (ECCT) and ICRT Radio are delighted to announce that the jointly organized 2007 ECCT-ICRT International Charity Golf Cup held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Royal Kuan Hsi Golf & Country Club successfully raised NT$500,000 for the Community Services Center (CSC), a Taipei-based charity. The funds raised will be used by the CSC for its counselling services. Over 90 players from 23 teams participated in the event at the Royal Kuan Hsi Golf & Country Club in Hsin Chu. A cheque was presented by the main sponsors to CSC Director, Mary Chua at the award ceremony party held on the evening of the tournament. At the ceremony, CEO Wittich thanked the main sponsors, Breitling, Nokia-Siemens Networks, Siemens, and Standard Chartered Bank for their generosity and continued support of the community. Afterwards, Director Chua thanked the sponsors for their generosity saying, “While the beneficiaries of your generosity, the numerous people in crisis who make use of our counselling services, cannot be named, rest assured that the funds raised from the Charity Cup will help the CSC to continue providing this essential service for people in real need”.

The European Chamber of Commerce and its members have been continuous supporters of charity organizations in Taiwan. As long-term investors and contributors to the Taiwan economy, the chamber also feels an obligation to contribute to the well-being of the Taiwanese, and in particular those in need. The very first event organized by the European Chamber after its foundation in 1988 was a charity gala evening that raised over NT$3 million for the Cardiac Children's Foundation of the Republic of China, an association for children with heart defects. With only 50 founding company members at that time this was a remarkable achievement. Since then, the chamber has continued to organize events and collect donations benefiting various local and foreign charity organizations. In addition to the annual International Charity Golf Cup, one of the chamber’s important fund-raising events is the Europe Day Dinner. Every year for the last 10 years, the chamber has donated part of the proceeds from the annual Europe Day Dinner to the Syin-Lu Foundation. Established in 1987, the Syin-Lu Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes empowerment and economic self-sufficiency for disabled children and adults and their families in Taiwan. Through a variety of projects, the foundation provides psychological treatment for children and professional training for those over the age of 15. The foundation has a program that helps disabled youth further develop their work skills.
