New York Plane NegotiationsI've had an e-mail dialogue with the owner of the Citabria in eastern NY. His plane has quite a few items that make it more valuable than John Teipen's. Saturday, I sent the following to this owner:

"Your 7ECA seems very nice. My main concern is how long before the fuselage fabric needs to be replaced. When our club voted to add a Citabria, we had planned on one in the $40 - $45K range. We've been watching the metal spar Citabria market and in the last month have seen a 7GCAA (880 SMOH) sell for just over $40K and a 7ECA (680 SMOH) sell for $36K. Yours does have lower engine time but we need to find one closer to our price range. The logistics of closing the sale and relocating the airplane over 900 miles in the Winter seems problematic also.

So unfortunately, I don't believe we will be able make you a high enough offer to make you part with your Citabria."

I received the following response from him: Mike,

My partner and I agreed over the weekend to propose a $46,900 sale price to you. I understand your question about the fabric but it's integrity has never been an issue in previous inspections. Regarding logistics, there are ways of mitigating those expenses. Anyhow, we want you to know our (surprising, to me) bottom line. Good luck with your search.Steve

So, we have one Citabria (900 miles away, low time, 200 hs & 4 years SMOH, w/GPS, some fuselage paint cracking, 2 yrs since wing replacement) for $46.900 (a $10K reduction) and another one (local, 800 SMOH, engine concerns, great fabric, 13 years since wing replacement) for $58,500. Can we get John down $15,000? Do we want to authorize a 2 club member road trip to bring home a plane?
