Your possible year…

• Starting the New Year can be tricky for anyone, but it's really tricky for an students and teachers. We're in the middle of a school year. Our calendars work very differently from the rest of the world. Even though we might be in the thick of it and not really thinking about new beginnings on January 1, there are still a number of simple things we can do to make the New Year great for us and our school.

Happy New Year!

• Every new year, we always hear of people setting their new year’s resolutions. Some want to exercise more, eat healthier, or save more money.

• What could your resolution be?

• What about Vernon Middle School’s resolution?

What would you change?

• January is the midway point for our school year! I think it is important for you to remember last semester and consider some improvements that we can all make. Reflect on last semester Reflect on last semester and discuss out loud one thing you and discuss out loud one thing you would change or one thing you could would change or one thing you could accomplish moving forwardaccomplish moving forward.

Reflect…

• What worked?

• What didn’t?

• What needs to be fixed?

Resolutions and rules…

• This is also a perfect time to review the rules for our school and classrooms.

• Please discuss the Lion Pride Code which should be hanging in every classroom. (You can obtain one in the copy room or view the next slide)

• PridePride: Keep classroom, bathroom, hallways clean. Take care of books, desks, and supplies. Follow dress code

•  Respect: Respect: Respect all staff, peers, self. Help others. Recycle.

• Integrity: Integrity: Obey all class/school rules. Avoid cheating. Use appropriate language.

• Determination: Determination: Set personal goals for achievement. Be on time. Be prepared with supplies, work, attitude.

• Excellence: Excellence: Eliminate referrals. Turn in work – ZAP. Meet or exceed classroom expectations.

Consider this…

• The one thing that you should not do is look at the New Year and start counting all of the things that you have to complete. Embrace the wondrous possibilities that a new calendar year brings to you and our school. Your slate is clean and ready for the New Year. What are you going to do with it?

Also consider…• One sure fire way to succeed with goals and

resolutions is to have support. So, let’s support each other this semester and also remember Rachel’s Challenge to our school.
