New variable star 39.1910 Cephei. In May 1909, while observing a star which was
suspected of variability, it was discovered that one of my comparison stars was, itself, a variable of long period.
The star in question is BD + 7 1 ' 1 0 7 0 (9115) RA. 2 1 ~ 2 7 ~ 4 9 ~ Decl. + 7 1 ' 14" (1855) .
I am indebted to the kindness of Prof. Turner of Oxford
University Observatory for the accurate position for I 900.0 which RA. 21~28"19?88 Decl. +71'30'314.
As the star is perpetually visible in these latitudes, it is hoped to accumulate sufficient observations to give precise details at an early date.

New variable star 40.1910 Cancri. On April I 0, I 9 I o I took a plate for an asteroid near
the stationary point with two exposures of I hour each on the same plate. The images are separated by 25". In examining the plate I have found a variable star. Its ap- proximate position as determined from 2 BD stars is 1910.0 -8h32m5753 +17'18.'5, magnitude 12m5 to 13?1.
The difference between the two images shows that the star increased in brightness om6 in I hour. This estimate is made by Mrs. Fleming of the Harvard Observatory. A niimber of plates taken at Harvard confirm the variability and show a change of om5.
The number of plates however is not sufficient to
determine its period. The mean magnitude of the star on- the exposures are so close together the true increase i n 1 9 1 0 April 10 from Greenw. M.
