 Sir Robert McAlpine Selected for Broadgate

Together with our Broadgate JV partners GIC, we have signed a frameworkagreement with Sir Robert McAlpine to work with us as we continue to evolvethe campus as a world­class, mixed­use destination. Broadgate provides aunique blend of public spaces, offices, restaurants and shops, linking thenorthern City to Shoreditch and Tech City.

The agreement positions Sir Robert McAlpine as the single constructiondelivery partner in the redevelopment of buildings within the Broadgatecampus. It provides a number of important benefits such as a co­ordinatedapproach to development across the campus, creating economies of scale andstandardised procurement procedures to develop more cost effectively andefficiently. The first projects will be 100 Liverpool Street and 1 FinsburyAvenue, with an anticipated start in 2017.

New Office Agenda Campaign Focuses on Talent

London News

Planning Application Submitted for 2 & 3 Finsbury AvenueSquare

A planning application for a new mixed­use building at 2 and 3 FinsburyAvenue Square has now been submitted following public exhibitions last year.The landmark building comprises four unified elements, with the tallest rising to32 storeys. Designed by Arup Associates, it will provide approximately 550,000sq ft of commercial floor space for up to 5,000 office workers, including flexibleoffice floorplates to appeal to a broad mix of occupiers. The proposals are partof the transformation of Broadgate in response to evolving occupier needsacross London, and will provide a unique blend of public spaces, restaurantsand shops linking the northern City to Shoreditch and Tech City.

 Dining Out at The Leadenhall Building

Restaurateur Leonid Shutov is to launch his second London restaurant, andhis first in the City, at The Leadenhall Building. Known for his successful BobBob Ricard restaurant in Soho, Leonid Shutov’s new offering will be located onthe third floor of the building overlooking the public realm. It will provide a 180­cover, all­booth restaurant with a further 120 covers in private roomsaccommodating four to 40 guests. The Leadenhall Building is now 95% let orunder offer, with 10 occupiers across 32 floors. More information here.

 

   

Retail News

Primark Opens at Broughton

Primark opened its 300th store atBroughton Shopping Park, Chester, thisweek. The 39,000 sq ft store forms part of aredeveloped former BHS store, with M&SFoodhall and Outfit trading alongside. It isthe first Primark to open in the region forfive years. The opening of the new retail lineup follows the launch of the £13 millionleisure development last year.

New Lettings at Ealing Broadway

Smiggle has taken the former Whittard unit at Ealing Broadway ShoppingCentre and is set to open at the end of April. Lettings have also beencompleted with Wasabi and Eat, with both stores due to open in May. Pretzelmaker Auntie Anne’s has also relocated to a new pod in the Centre.

Homebase Planning Consent, Crawley

Planning consent has been granted for the redevelopment of a 43,000 sq ftHomebase store in Crawley. Options for the scheme are now being reviewedand interest from a number of retailers has already been received.

Land Acquisition, Chester

At Broughton Shopping Park, Chester, 7.4 acres of land and an office buildingsurrounding the scheme have been acquired. The land already benefits froman outline planning consent for the development of a hotel, drive­through andpub units.

Patisserie Valerie Opens atGlasgow Fort

Patisserie Valerie has opened its latest storeat Glasgow Fort Shopping Park. The storedesign follows the company’s brand closely,using Art Nouveau detailing and high qualitymaterials throughout.

Superdrug Takes Space at Whiteley

Superdrug has signed to take the 4,800 sq ft former Bank store at WhiteleyShopping, Hampshire. The new store is expected to open in June.

   

Guess How Much! Signs at Wheatley

New discount variety retailer Guess How Much!, launched by former Asda bossAndy Bond, has signed for 10,000 sq ft at Wheatley Centre Shopping RetailPark, Doncaster. It’s one of the first 10 stores the company has signed for andwill sell general merchandise, ambient grocery and feature fashion from Pep &Co clothing lines.

David Lockyer, Head of Asset Management(Offices) discusses community partnerships atRegent’s Place, where the team works withcommunity partners and involves our occupiersand suppliers in projects that are making apositive local difference and strengtheningrelationships with all involved.

Anna Devlet, Head of Community, looks at EastLondon, home to Europe’s largest and growingcluster of digital businesses, but many TechCity firms are finding it hard to secure the talentthey need. At the same time, local youngpeople are struggling to find work, with youthunemployment in some areas around Tech Cityclose to 40%.
