February 27, 2013

As most of you know New Hope

Christian Church has experienced

numerous shed break-ins in the last

4 years resulting in the theft of thou-

sands of dollars worth of equipment.

The New Hope Board has decided

that it is time to build a new, more

secure storage facility on the north

side of the parking lot under the se-

curity light.

This new shed would be a 12 Ft.

wide 20 Ft. long building with a 12 x

12 Ft. room for all of our landscaping

equipment, and an 8 x 12 Ft. room

that can be used for additional stor-

age. It will include an expanded

metal within the frame to keep eve-

rything safe, and will have the same

type of façade as the church to make

As New Hope we are Disciples of Christ striving to bring Heaven to earth

through nurturing, serving and connecting

There are many opportunities for worship and

study during the Lenten season at NHCC.

Josh is preaching a very special sermon Series

called Famous Last Words, based on Jesus words

spoken as he hung on the cross.

On Wednesdays, through March 20th Josh will

lead a Bible Study about the nature of sin. There

will be sessions at 10:30a.m. and 6:00p.m. (Please

note that there will not be a morning session on

March 13th only).

On Palm Sunday, March 24th the choir will pre-

sent the Easter Cantata.

March 28th is Maundy Thursday and NHCC will

observe the occasion with a Seder Meal at

6:00p.m.

Friday, March 29th, we will observe Good Friday

with a Silent Service.

And on Easter, March 31st, we will celebrate the

Resurrection of our Lord. Josh’s sermon title for

Easter: The Final Word

Lenten Activities

it attractive.

To pay for the shed we will use the

available memorial funds of

$3,904.94 which will cover a little

over half of the cost. To pay for the

rest we will need your help! The

estimated cost of building this stor-

age building is about $6,500, which

is very inexpensive because some of

our members have agreed to donate

all of their labor; but, we will still

need your generous gifts to help us

finish this very important project!

Will you please consider giving a

onetime gift to help pay for this

much needed storage facility, so we

can continue to improve the facili-

ties of New Hope Christian Church!

Set your clock forward when you go to bed Saturday night, March 9th. You wouldn’t want

to be late for Church! (Would you?)

Giving

Our giving is a spiritual matter that involves

the heart, our spiritual knowledge of scrip-

tures, and our spiritual capacity for faith in

God and his invisible powers. Giving reflects

our value system, our life priorities, and our

life disciplines. Seeing God work in our materi-

al world of things will enlarge our faith for the

invisible world of the kingdom of God.

“And God is able to make all grace abound to-

ward you, that you, always having all sufficien-

cy in all things, may have an abundance of eve-

ry good work 2 Corinthians 9:8

February 27, 2013 Page 5

Six months ago – back in August – a

small group from Oklahoma City

learned about the national 100,000

Homes Campaign and said, “Wouldn’t it

be cool if we could do that here?” Now

on Valentine’s Day, 2013, we proved

we actually could use the Housing First

model to begin getting our most medi-

cally vulnerable, chronically homeless,

unsheltered people into housing and sur-

round them with the services and case

management they will need in order to

sustain that housing.

Our goal was to create a “by name and

face registry” of as many of our chroni-

cally homeless, unsheltered Oklahoma

Cityans as we possibly could. Thanks to

the efforts of more than 100 volunteers,

The Homeless Alliance is rallying our

community to end homelessness

that goal was realized the week of

January 20.

After Registry Week, staff from

more than 20 governments, faith-

based and nonprofit agencies went

to work prioritizing the 150 most

medically vulnerable unsheltered

individuals and families we regis-

tered. Prioritizing included not only

determining who were the most

medically vulnerable, but also iden-

tifying what wraparound services

each individual or family would

need to sustain housing, what agen-

cies would be providing those ser-

vices, and identifying the most ap-

propriate housing options for each

of our first 14.

Our “stretch” goal was to house

14 of our most vulnerable citi-

zens by the 14th of February

(one day LESS than three

weeks after Registry week!!!)

and I am proud to report that

the final tally for today is 17

housed – a breathtaking col-

laborative effort that a mere six

months ago was a pipedream.

Oklahoma City is on its way to

ENDING chronic homeless-

ness, not just managing it. If

Registry Week was the end of

the beginning, today marked

the beginning of the end. We

still have a long hard road

ahead, but if the last three

Here’s what that process looked like, with each client having a poster.
