NFPA labels for different chemicals can be accessed through the CAMEO Chemical

website. Below are steps for accessing this information in order to fill out the NFPA

diamond.

Accessing CAMEO Chemicali

1. Type in: www.cameochemicals.noaa.gov

2. When the screen first appears, go to New Search on the left hand side of the

screen under Search Chemicals.

3. Search the name of the chemical you wish to find.

Example: Sodium Hydroxide

4. Look through the search results to find your chemical and click View

Datasheet.

5. On the datasheet, you will be able to find the NFPA labels (as seen below),

hazard descriptions, response recommendations, and physical properties of

the chemical.

You may have noticed another option Add to MyChemicals next to the View

Datasheet option. The Add to MyChemicals option allows you to explore the

reactivity of different chemicals.

1. Go to New Search on the left hand side of the screen under Search

Chemicals.

2. Search the name of the chemical you wish to find.

Example: Sodium Hydroxide

3. Look through the search results to find your chemical and click Add to

MyChemicals.

4. Click the New Search option again and search another chemical you wish to

find. Example: Oxygen Gas

5. Look through the search results to find your chemical and click Add to

MyChemicals again.

6. Add all the chemicals you want to your MyChemicals list.

7. Click the Predict Reactivity Option on the left hand side of the screen. This

will direct you to a Compatibility Chart of your chemicals, like the one below.

NOTE: If the chemical you are looking for is not available on CAMEO Chemical,

you can search for an MSDS for the chemical online. Remember, if you are trying

to find the MSDS for a chemical you are using, access the MSDS from the

manufacturer.
