Weather permitting; we are planning to host ‘meet the teacher’ sessions on the field on Wednesday 8th and

Wednesday 15th July. This will give all classes the opportunity to spend an hour with their new teacher, playing socially distanced games and enjoying some circle time activities. See below for the date and time of

miss out. Since we are informing you of staffing for next year, I want to take the opportunity to let you know that Mrs Barrasso is expecting her first baby (due at Christmas). This means that the current Year 4 class will have

Mrs Barrasso for the Autumn term of Year 5 and then a new teacher for the remainder of the academic year. An advert for this post is going out next week. We will let you know once someone is recruited for that post. In the meantime, I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Mrs Barrasso and her husband on their happy

news.

This week’s learning…in school and at home

EYFS

In Early Years, this week’s learning (at home and in school) has been based around the topic 'People Who Help Us'.

On Tuesday in school, the Reception bubble looked at vehicles of people who helped us. The children also went outside to make a tally of the cars in the staff car park (silver and

grey cars proved to be the most popular)!

In Nursery, for their Maths learning, children were asked to look at emergency vehicles and

sort them. At home, Artie showed how he sorted them into colours and matched the emergency person to it's vehicle; whilst in school Harry sorted vehicles and Aras stuck into

his book vehicles that move on land, across the sea or in the sky.

William made his own oven at home

Year 4 (key worker children at school and children at home)

We started off with a cardboard box and cut a flap in it which we covered in foil.

Then we covered the inside in black sugar paper and put cling film over the top. This

was so that the sun can bounce off the box and heat it up. When it was finished

we baked some scones in it! We had made dough earlier in the week and put it in the solar oven and waited... the oven worked and the scones tasted very nice!

Year 1

Our new topic in Year 1 is Castles, Kings and

Queens. This week we made our own version of

a coat of arms using paper weavings. We carefully cut our own

strips and wove them in and out through the paper to create our

design. Although it was fiddly we really enjoyed it and love how they have

turned out!

Year 5

Year 5 have had a fantastic first week back at school. We have continued with our Ancient

Greek topic by researching mythological creatures and then creating our own hybrid

creature. We then used this creature to write an eerie fight scene with a Greek hero!

Before designing our hybrid mythological creature, we needed to boost our artistic skills so we relied on Emmylou’s tutorials to help us draw a slithering snake! We also decided why we were worthy of being given an olive / laurel wreath. We then designed and made our own using a range

of craft materials.

Asia and researched the

history of Japanese sports.

Bird update in Early Years

‘Mrs Pigeon’ flew off from the Early Years’ garden during last week’s storm and,

sadly, has not come back. There were no baby pigeons (called squabs) or eggs so,

hopefully, she has remade her nest somewhere else.

On a happier note, we are still looking after our four hens in the Early Years’

garden and they are thriving – producing four eggs most days.

Year 6 This week we have seen the return of more of the Year 6 class and the children have settled into the new routines

brilliantly. We have launched our new Aztec unit this week and explored the founding of Tenochtitlan, which

was where Mexico City is today, and learnt a bit about the writing they used.

As well as deciphering some glyphs and creating a scene ourselves, we have enjoyed some tennis with Mr Sinclair.

It was very hot, so we have had to take lots of water breaks!
