GLENDORA ROTARYMeets Tuesday Noon at theContinental restaurant316 W. Rt. 66(626 914 1834)

The children’s author who wrote “Charlotte’s Web,” E. B. White, came up with this pithy observation. He wrote:

“Always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder.”

A ROTARY MOMENTOur beloved Rotary wheel emblem had an uncertain start. The original Rotary club in Chicago adopted a wagon wheel as their emblem, with a smooth rim and many spokes. Other clubs followed suit with many variations. Then Chas Perry, at the 1911 convention, suggested that the organization needed a standardized design, and it was a year later at the 1912 convention that a committee was appointed to search for one. The Philadelphia club had been chartered in 1910 as club number 19, so they designed a cog wheel to signify Rotarians working together, with 19 cogs since that was the number of their club. The final version waited until 1928 to be settled and be adopted by the whole organization.

Darleen Curley tells of an important golf tournament coming up in the city of Montclair.. Darleen moves in the Chambers of Commerce circles.

THE KEY IS INVOLVEMENTCarol Seward represents the Avenue of Vocational Service for this year. It was refreshing to hear all of our new members taking part in the organization of the coming year. Carol Seward, Christine Smith, Jack Gordon, Jaime Genie and Bob Slack, were all mentioned as accepting assignments. This is the glue that creates a strong club. Member involvement creates opportunities for us to get to know each other better, and creates accomplishments of which the whole club can be proud.

Bob Verhoef ended today’s program with a big “Thank You” to all members who donated to the big yellow bus program. This helps our school children get a chance to experience a day at the fair. Some of them might not ever get an opportunity to experience all the wonders that the fair offers. Right, Gene Morrill and Pat Janes pair up to tell off all the exciting community service projects we have coming up this year.

! ! ! ! ! AN ERRANT CHECKPaul Hooker asked that this notice be sent to the membership. A few weeks ago Wes Purkiss presented a program about The Glendora Welfare Association. Several members were moved to donate to that worthy organization. There was one specific check for $100 that has been lost. So If you were one of our generous members who wrote a check for $100 after that meeting, keep watch on your bank statement, and if it has not yet cleared, you will probably want to redirect your largess, for the organization needs the funds.

! ! ! A POORLY PICKERYour editor had the lucky ticket number on this auspicious day, but didn’t do a very good job of picking a card. THE POT STILL LIVES.
