New Operation’s Manager
Hi team,
This newsletter is a good opportunity
to introduce myself to you, as I take up the
responsibilities of Operations Manager at TCNZ.
I’m from Oamaru in the South Island, home of New Zealand’s fanciest Penguin colony. (one
of Bens favorite birds.)
I left school at 17 and joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force as an Avionics Technician
(Aircraft electrician).
I completed my training in this trade and then a couple of years later changed trades to
become an Aircraft technician (A mechanic who works on aircraft) graduating to become a
hydraulics and jet engine specialist. When NZ had fighter jets, I worked on, and had several
flights in these.
After 8 years of Airforce life I was promoted to Engineering Manager and became the
Airforce’s Senior Explosives Officer after training received from the Australian Airforce. I’m
qualified in bomb disposal…
I left the Airforce after 13 years and took jobs in engineering management for several
companies with staff ranging from 5 to 60.
My last position before seeking out a job at TCNZ was in the steel industry at Pacific Steel in
Otahuhu initially as Engineering Manager, and then on to Business restructure.
In my first weeks at TCNZ, I’ve discovered new words I’ve never heard of, and met lots of
great people. I’m looking forward to helping you and TCNZ continue to the goal of being a
professional, world class supplier of Tower Cranes, Mobile cranes, Precast Erection, and
Transport.

Workflowmax is here to replace the weekly paper timesheet with a phone app that allows the
user to enter his hours in real time. We started using Workflowmax on April 24th. Riggers are
the first segment of the company to implement this software, which is still at a trial stage.
Using Workflowmax, riggers must input the same information that they used to write on the
timesheets, nevertheless, there are several benefits:
Jobs must be entered in advanced, so management and administrative personnel have
knowledge about ongoing operations.
Standardized information is pre-entered; therefore, typing is kept to a minimum.
Timesheets are summited daily, pursuing detailed information as personnel does not forget
facts that could be important.
TCNZ can keep track of consumables quantities.
The riggers have been doing a great job and after the first week, mistakes have been reduced
considerably. From TCNZ we will love to thank: Ben, Korey, Harley and Luiz for their
commitment with this new procedure and their desire to contribute to the better flow of the
company’s processes.
As a worker, it’s your right and your responsibility to speak up at work. It can be hard but it’s worth it to look
out for yourself and your workmates.
Safety Hero
TCNZ would like to congratulate Tommy
Potae for his outstanding performance when
it comes to Safety.
Please do inform the office about any
incident or injury that you encounter at your
site. Remember all incident and injury needs
to be documented.
Having a health and safety conversation with
your workmates, your boss or your workers is
the first action to take to help make sure
everyone goes home healthy and safe.
Planning for the day ahead, knowing who’s
doing what, learning from past mistakes and
coming up with ways to work better and do
things safer are conversations we should be
having all the time
To help us improve our Health & Safety performance, TCNZ will run regular H&S meetings with
the following team members:

Company Forecast TCNZ continues to grow at an awesome rate. With ever increasing numbers of inquiries in all departments,
and further business continuing to come our way, the future is very bright.
To facilitate this growth, we are continuing to focus on putting systems in place that will make the business
easier to run as we grow. One example is the Workflow Max software which will track jobs, labour and
materials use. This will make life for all of us easier by reducing paperwork and allowing a better control
on materials spend and effort to on-charge the client.
In the background, we are also working on structure, strategies, and policy to make sure that TCNZ
continues to keep pace with the construction boom, while at the same time keeping our people safe and
the business running in a fair and just manner.
Overview of Each Department
• Mobile Crane is doing well, utilisation is excellent they have added two more mobiles to their
existing fleet.
• Panel Erection is our latest department that we have added to our company, built up from 0 at
the beginning of this year to now 4, pricing jobs of various sizes up to 600 panels, TCNZ have
