Top running back Larry Rose III (sports her- nia surgery) remains doubtful for a third straight week, which pins much of NMSU’s fortunes on the right arm of quarterback Tyler Rogers. The senior has been solid thus far, passing for 411 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s also made a number of big plays running the ball this season. Eight receivers caught pass- es in last week’s win over New Mexico, making the Aggies’ passing game difficult to stop. NMSU is also coming off one of its better defensive outings in recent seasons. Aggies’ defensive linemen have played more physically, allowing line- backers Rodney Butler, Dalton Herrington and Terrill Hanks to thrive. A youthful secondary remains a question mark. The Wildcats have scored just seven points in their past six quarters and have had trouble moving the ball on the ground or through the air. The bright spot has been running back Stanley “Boom” Williams, who averages 6.4 yards per carry. The junior figures to get plenty of work against a New Mexico State defense that ranks 120th nationally against the rush. But unlike NMSU’s first two opponents, Kentucky does not lean heavily on the running game. The Wildcats look for big plays in the passing game, and their top three receivers average more than 25 yards per catch. Defensively, Kentucky has been battered in losses to Southern Miss and Florida. The Wildcats’ young line has struggled to stop the run and has generated little pass rush. As much as coach Doug Martin would like to have a bal-anced offensive attack, New Mexico State figures to be a pass-first, pass-often team against Kentucky. Top running back Larry Rose III (sports her-nia surgery) remains doubtful for a third straight week, which pins much of NMSU’s fortunes on the right arm of quarterback Tyler Rogers. The senior has been solid thus far, passing for 411 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s also

made a number of big plays running the ball this season.

Eight receivers caught pass-es in last week’s win over New Mexico, making the Aggies’ passing game difficult to stop.

NMSU is also coming off one of its better defensive outings in recent seasons. Aggies’ defensive linemen have played more physically, allowing line-backers Rodney Butler, Dalton Herrington and Terrill Hanks to thrive. A youthful secondary remains a question mark.

NOTE: 128 FBS SCHOOLS, 14 SEC SCHOOLS RANKED

Kentucky’s offense got off to a blazing start in its season opener but has bogged down since. The Wildcats have scored just seven points in their past six quarters and have had trouble moving the ball on the ground or through the air.

The bright spot has been running back Stanley “Boom” Williams, who averages 6.4 yards per carry. The junior figures to get plenty of work against a New Mexico State defense that ranks 120th

nationally against the rush. But unlike NMSU’s first two

opponents, Kentucky does not lean heavily on the running game. The Wildcats look for big plays in the passing game, and their top three receivers average more than 25 yards per catch.

Defensively, Kentucky has been battered in losses to Southern Miss and Florida. The Wildcats’ young line has struggled to stop the run and has generated little pass rush.
