  • Deacon’s Message Rev. Mr. Thomas Boyle

The readings for today talk about the vari-

ous aspects of a family. We each can re-

late to life in a family, whether we are sin-

gle and thinking of the family we grew up

in, or married and we do or do not have

children. We were all children at one

time, and all grew up with the Church and

God in our lives to some extent. Today

might be a good time to take a moment to

reflect on the readings and the Gospel,

and to try to apply their meaning to our

everyday lives. Let us pray that through

the revelation of the Holy Spirit may we,

too, be able to recognize Jesus in our eve-

ryday life and serve him. How do we

make room and space for this word to

dwell within us richly? Christ is present

today in our daily lives, just as he was

present to Simeon and Anna, in the people

we meet inside and outside our homes.

Through the revelation of the Holy Spirit

may we too, be able to recognize Him

and serve Him. As parts of the Body of

Christ, we are also members of the Holy

Family of God. At times our role might

be to tend the young, the sick, or the el-

derly in our own biological family units.

At other times, we might be privileged to

offer support to a young or struggling

family. In his letter to the Colossians St.

Paul tells us how we are to tend the bonds

of love that unite us in Christ: by putting

    on compassion, kindness, humility, gentle-

ness, and patience. In this way we offer

our lives to God in thanksgiving, and help

to build and nurture His Holy Family.

casados y tengamos o no hijos.

cierto punto.

nuestros hogares. A través de la revelación

del Espíritu Santo, también nosotros po-

demos reconocerlo y servirlo. Como parte

del Cuerpo de Cristo, también somos miem-

bros de la Sagrada Familia de Dios. A veces,

dumbre y paciencia.

gracias y ayudamos a construir y nutrir Su

    Sagrada Familia.

  • Stewardship and Online Giving

The Covid-19 pandemic has posed challenges to the Archdiocese and particularly, to our OLMC

Parish, including funds lost due to the recent suspension of public liturgies.

Our parish rely on your generosity to continue the mission of Christ through our ministries, mainte-

nance, staffing and other pressing needs.

Support OLMC parish at this critical time by donating through Vancopayments.

You can donate online through our website: mountcarmelrc.org.

Thank you for your constant support to our OLMC Parish!

This Week’s Second Collection is for our Parish Facilities.

Often the Church has also been called the building of God. The Lord Himself compared Him-

self to the stone which the builders rejected, but which was made into the cornerstone. On this

foundation the Church is built by the apostles, and from it the Church receives durability and

    consolidation. - Lumen Gentium

The Archdiocesan Appeal Our assessment for this year is $78,484, or

20% of our last year’s income. To date, we

    have received $63,000. Please consider

what you might do to help us meet our ob-

ligation by the end of the year.

    Thank you very much!

We would like to greet everyone a

    blessed and grace-filled New

Year of 2021. We pray that the Lord

will bestow His grace to you and

your family always. Know that we al-

ways remember each of you in our

Masses and prayers here at Mt. Carmel.

God bless everyone and keep safe!

    Mount

    Carmel Parishioners!

Help us set a Guinness World record while we help our

    community at the same time.

We’ve assembled a team of cyclists to

ascend 29,029 feet in a relay up the

famed Old La Honda road on Sunday,

    January 10.

Why 20,029 feet total elevation? That's

the height of the world's tallest moun-

    tain -- Mount Everest.

    That's why it's called

the Everest Challenge. Our goal in this

effort is to raise $1 for every foot of el-

    evation achieved--$29,029.00

This will take us 8-10 hours. But it will

go even faster to know that our com-

munity is supporting us with every

downstroke of the pedal on the bike.

    Please support this important effort!

    Go to

    www.OLMCEverestChallenge.com

to donate. Half of the funds raised

    will support the Mount Carmel

Chapter of St. Vincent De Paul, the

other half supports our school and

    the various distance learning needs

    during these challenging times.

    St. Vincent de Paul

    extends a heart-felt

    thank you to every-

    one who donated a

jacket to the homeless in our

    community. We collected around

    200 jackets. So two hundred

    homeless are now walking

    around much warmer.

    With sincere gratitude we wish

    you a blessed Christmas!

    Madre, Guardame junto a Jesus

en el hueco de tu manto. En el

    cruce de tus brazos.

    Maria, Madre de Dios, ruega

    por nosotros.

  • The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Reading 1 Reading 2 SIR 3:2-6, 12-14 COL 3:12-21

    Responsorial Psalm:

Blessed are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways.

brazos y bendijo a Dios, diciendo:

    al que has preparado para bien de todos los pueblos;

    40x).

    Primera Lectura Segunda Lectura

    Si 3, 3-7. 14-17a Col 3, 12-21 Salmo Responsorial:

Dichoso el que teme al Señor.

When the days were completed for their purification

according to the law of Moses,

They took him up to Jerusalem

to present him to the Lord,

just as it is written in the law of the Lord,

Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,

and to offer the sacrifice of

a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,

in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.

Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon.

This man was righteous and devout,

    awaiting the consolation of Israel,

and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit

that he should not see death

before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.

    He came in the Spirit into the temple;

and when the parents brought in the child Jesus

to perform the custom of the law in regard to him,

He took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:

“Now, Master, you may let your servant go

in peace, according to your word,

for my eyes have seen your salvation,

which you prepared in sight of all the peoples,

a light for revelation to the Gentiles,

and glory for your people Israel.” The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about

    him;

and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother,

    “Behold, this child is destined

for the fall and rise of many in Israel,

and to be a sign that will be contradicted

—and you yourself a sword will pierce—

so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

There was also a prophetess, Anna,

the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher.

    She was advanced in years,

having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage,

and then as a widow until she was eighty-four.

    She never left the temple,

but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer.

And coming forward at that very time,

she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child

to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.

When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions

of the law of the Lord,

    they returned to Galilee,

to their own town of Nazareth.

    The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom;

and the favor of God was upon him. (Lk. 2:22-40)
