hen you bring two bright designers, Raymond Jimenez and Shannon Scott, and one

sophisticated world traveler together to renovate a 20-year-old, 1,400-square-foot,

two-bedroom, two-bath apartment in South Beach’s exclusive Murano Portofino condominium, the

result is an eclectic mix. The owner, Murat Ceritoglu, who divides his time between Miami, London

and Istanbul, left the architectural restoration and interior design to Jimenez and Scott’s considerable

talent. “I just like the way the city smells,” says the owner, speaking of the scent of the ocean and

flowers he finds everywhere. Much of the condominium’s palette and style is drawn from a

vision the design duo developed on city walks to the owner’s favorite antique and accessories

shops while sensing the ambiance of the city ... its pulse, rhythm and sophistication.

ABOVE: In the living area, the play of the bold and the detailed make for a symbiotic calm. A supple, inviting

sofa by Raul Carrasco and elegant armchairs from Lillian August lend a smooth backdrop, while minutely

embroidered white and gold accent pillows from Oggetti hint at exotic places.

FACING: Stately white horses in artwork from Claudio Brito Souza reign front and center in the dining area,

where the designers illuminate the glittering buffet. Agostino’s chandelier adds sparkle and glamour above

crushed champagne-velvet chairs by Robert Allen that surround the table set with tableware by Kate Spade.

Springing color into the study’s platinum and gold palette, Blackstone’s

artwork, Caged Canaries, circa 1880, sings out above the rolled-arm sofa.

Round ottomans and wing-backed chairs by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams,

along with old-world graphic pillows from Oggetti, add interest and drama.



“The owner fell in love with silk,” Scott says. The living area’s sofa in pure silk by Raul

Carrasco sits in front of the condo’s curved glass wall. The gray, patterned rug from the Rug

Company adds a kiss of silk, while the charcoal sheers of transparent silk by Romo let in the

drama and lights of the city. Here, light bounces off E.G. Cody’s monolithic acrylic cocktail table

and two mirrored obelisks top the floating console. Two velvet armchairs are just perfect for

dreamy vista gazing.

With walls removed and soffits redesigned into elegant coffers, the kitchen overlooks the living

and dining area, as well as the wide expanse of Biscayne Bay. Polished black onyx sits atop golden

teak cabinetry, while a crystal and fabric lighting fixture from Farrey’s illuminates every corner.

Casting warm tones onto the barstools and countertop, two Swarovski crystal pendant lights offer

a whimsical indulgence.

ABOVE: From the kitchen to the main living areas, the walls are wrapped in gold and gray faux-stone-paneled

wall coverings by Kravet. Opustone’s onyx countertop extends down the side like a cascading waterfall.


Made for romance, the dining area

swoons in arcs of reflection. The mirrored

cabinetry is illuminated by the imported

Italian crystal chandelier from Agostino, as

is the glass top and acrylic base of E.G.

Cody’s elegant dining table. Brito Souza’s

muted-tone painting tops the cabinetry,

where horn spires from Michael Dawkins

make a masculine statement.

Though pale honed travertine flooring

flows throughout the public spaces, the

study and master bedroom grow warm with

hand-scraped ebony planking. A rolled-arm

sofa in beige linen from Mitchell Gold lends

Fifth Avenue richness to the space, where

the magnificence of an antique mountain

lion pelt sprawls beneath the cocktail table

topped with reinvented railroad ties.

“Sometimes, you just fall in love,” says

Scott, recalling how smitten the owner was

with the four-poster bed. The combination

of a sumptuously upholstered headboard

in aqua-blue silk and the silvery sheen of

Maya Romanoff’s wall covering make the

bedroom a formidable haven. As sparkle

returns in the acrylic bedside lamps, more

shimmery silk abounds in the patterned

area rug. Even Jalan Jalan’s table made of

two-million-year-old polished, petrified

wood is aglow.
