Some airlines have begun to implement TSA’s Secure Flight program. (Domestic airlines are scheduled

to participate by the first quarter of 2010; international carriers by the end of 2010.)

Now, when some passengers make flight reservations, they may be asked for their name (exactly as it appears on the government-issued identification they use when traveling), birth date and gender. This additional information enhances security and is part of a screening process that helps differentiate passengers’ names from individuals with similar names on TSA’s suspected terrorist (No-Fly) watch list.

Here are some frequently asked questions and answers about the program.

Q. Why didn’t the airline ask for additional information?

A. The program is being phased in and passengers shouldn't worry if an airline doesn’t ask for the additional information right away. Airlines will request the information when they are able to integrate it into their systems.

Q. What will happen if the name on a boarding pass is different from the government ID?

A. The name used when making travel reservations will be compared to names on the watch list before a boarding pass is issued, so small differences should not affect travel. At this time, procedures at checkpoints will remain the same.

Q. How do passengers know if they are on the No-Fly list?

A. Passengers who successfully obtain a boarding pass are not on the No-Fly list. Secure Flight will reduce watch list misidentifications by more than 99 percent. Passengers who believe they have been delayed (or denied) boarding, delayed (or denied) entry into the U.S., or have been subject to enhanced screening, may seek redress through the DHS Traveler Redress Inquiry Program (DHS TRIP) at www.dhs.gov/trip.

The Kentucky Department of Aviation (KDA) recently named Mary Rose Evans Airport Board Member of the Year. Evans was presented with the award at the annual Kentucky Aviation

Conference.

Evans was instrumental in forming the ANA (Airport Neighbors Alliance), and served as its president. Under Evans’ guidance, the ANA proposed a Relocation Working Group, designed to facilitate communication about the airport’s relocation program with neighboring communities.

Because of her efforts, she was elected as vice president of the National Organization to Insure a Sound-controlled Environment (NOISE). She also received an Honorary Resident of the Year award in 2006, from the City of Minor Lane Heights/Heritage Creek. The award recognized her extraordinary efforts to secure funding for the airport relocation program and her support of Heritage Creek as an innovative alternative housing option for families relocating due to aircraft noise.

Evans is active in the ANA, Community Noise Forum and the Relocation Working Group. She also currently serves as Mayor of the City of Parkway Village, a board member of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority and an officer of the board of directors of NOISE.

Notes from Bowman Field• The construction of Taxiway Lima is complete. The new taxiway provides pilots with more direct access to both runways and other airfield facilities.

• Taxiway Alpha is now permanently closed.

• A project to rehabilitate the apron in front of Louisville Executive Aviation and seal two aprons in front of the Central American Aviation hangars (south and west of Taxiway “G”) will begin this fall.

• Runway 14/32 is now R/W 15/33 due to a change in the magnetic north. The FAA has published the change in its Airport Facilities Directory (AFD).

Thompson Earns ACE Certification

Congratulations to Mike Thompson, Airfield Maintenance Supervisor for Bowman Field, for earning an Airport Certified Employee (ACE)-Operations certification from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE).
