Elektor ElectronicsFinally a word about a new collec-tion of cd-roms. Many of you willbe familiar with the ElektorElec-tronics magazines, which GMIT Li-brary have subscribed to since 1982.We now have available the annualcollections of Elektor on cd-romback to 1995 and up to 2002. Theannual cd contains all editorial arti-clesin Adobe Acrobat format.Searching is by keyword, and usersmay search through more than oneyear on the most recent cds (1998-).If you wish to use any of the Elektorcd-roms please ask at the library en-quiry desk. All our cd-roms are forLibrary use only.

Many of our database providers arecontinuously improving and upgrad-ing their services.The Art Abstracts database hasemployed the use of ~ new docu-ment locating facility calledBALSA, which connects end usersto the most convenient bibliographicutility which houses the full textdocument. This may be another Li-brary or a document delivery ser-vice. To use BALSA, simply clickon the "locate" button at the top of adisplayed record, a new browserwindow will open up, containing asummary of the resources availableand provisional results.

It isa good source for students and re-searchers on all aspects of cons1rua-tion management and economics. Itis a refereed journal which publishesoriginal research concerning themanagement and economics ofbuilding and civil engineering. Italso includes the management ofbuilt facilities. It is shelved at624.05International ConstructionThis title is published monthly byJames King. It features world news,project reports, interviews productinformation and new equipment.

New book by GMIT LecturerWe are delighted to welcome thepublication of GMrr lecturer Dr.Elizabeth Gosling's new book,"Bivalve Molluscs Biology, Ecol-ogy and Culture". The book is pub-lished by Fishing NewBooks, an im-print of Blackwell Science and waslaunched here in GMrr on April2nd by the Director, Ms. MarionCoy.

Welcome back to each and every-one after the Easter Holidays.The Theses for Diploma and De-gree students have now been sub-mitted and the students are. verybusy working on their Exhibitionpieces for their show on the 7th.June, we wish them well and lookforward to seeing wonderful Artwhich the show produces each

year.

Last Term we had our fIrst Artsand Culture Week in Cluain:rvIl1uire, Our Director Marion Coyofficially opened it on Tuesday18th. March. This is an excitingnew initiative that the students

have developed and deserves thesupport of all. Students from variousdisciplines, Paint, Print, Sculpture,Ceramics, T.V. and Film all playedtheir part in ma~g the weekmemorable. Each day began with atheme, such as Spanish and therewas Salsa and Flamenco dancingworkshops on and Spanish food inthe canteen. Along the corridorswere displays of Prints and Paint-ings in which Brendan Crehan'sCeltic Art took pride of place.There were many other eventsthroughout the week including slideshows and Live Art Painting.

On Wednesday our own John Tun-ney, Head of Humanities was in finevoice with a mixture of stories,sean nos singing and storytelling,including stories of his late fatherthe renowned traditional singerPaddy-Tunney, author of ""StoneFiddle"ill the Library too on Thursday wehad a Performance Piecefrom Amanda Coogan, one of Ire-lands leading performance artists
