Insect SOS: You would think people would understand that the police emergency number should be reserved for life- threatening incidents, such as a health crisis or a break-in. However, police regularly get some pretty weird and unnecessary calls on the emergency line asking for help. For example, a woman in North Yorkshire, England, called police because her ex-partner wrapped up a jar of stick insects and gave it to their children as a gift. The woman informed police that she would bring the jar to the station for disposal. The cops refused to cooperate and instead gave the caller a lecture about the appropriate use of the emergency number. Clown act: A bank in the prairie city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, was the scene of robbery by an unusual felon – a clown. The man under the mask demanded $16,000 while pointing what appeared to be a gun at the teller. It didn’t take long for the police canine unit to nab the perpetrator, Rondell McGarrett Johnson from the US, who was found with a bag containing the costume, a fake gun, and the money. The Canadian court gave the thief an eight-year jail term, and once his term is up, he’ll be forced to take his "clown act" back to his home country. Curious items: Visitors to a museum in Melbourne, Australia, are intrigued by the array of artifacts on display. According to its website, the Wunderkammer museum is filled with “scientific curiosities, artifacts and ephemera.” It is interesting to note that ephemera refers to things that don’t have lasting value, but may have been useful for a short period of time. Therefore, it’s no surprise for visitors to see such items as antique medical and dental instruments, steam engines, survey equipment, and sundials. It also stocks insect, mineral, and fossil specimens. An assortment of items is available for purchase, making unique gifts for discerning buyers. Quoteable Quotes Quoteable Quotes "The bow too tensely strung is easily broken." - Publilius Syrus "It's fine to celebrate success, but it's more important to heed the lessons of failure." - Bill Gates What’s Happening Trivia 1.
