Commentary from the NL Chairman, Gerry Johnson
How do you feel about the outcome of the budget meeting? Or more succinctly, the passing of the 2017 Budget?
For those of you who were unable to attend, here’s a recap of what will be happening with your money as of 1/1/17:
1. HOA Assessment (Dues) raised $32.00. 2. Employees received a 2% RAISE 3. Two employees who are now recipients of
Medicare, will be given $287.50 monthly for the cost of Medicare Part B (I don’t know about you, but I only pay $104.90 monthly. How about giving them the ACTUAL cost? Why do WEhave to pay them?).
4. The amount being put into the sewer re-pipe reserve will be $32.00( as pointed out at the meeting, it is not necessary to put that amount in reserve, and still have the same end result…then why are we?)
5. Why is so much given to Grounds Maintenance? Where are the drought plants?
These were the main items that some of the members in attendance and three board members showed concern about. They voiced their opinions to change the budget in order to lower the dues. It was also brought to the Board’s attention that the BOARD HAS A FIDUCIARY RESPONSIBILITY TO THE OWNERS, not to the employees. (Did we abide by our responsibility?).
OUTCOME: Board did not take the members wishes under advisement. No discussion among the Board members…..Just the vote….8 Yes (to pass the new budget) 3 No. Your opinion is most important. If you Care, Share. Let us know if you would like to see an opinion poll. Email your opinion or drop it off at the Newsletter office (slot in door), or call me and I’ll pick it up! Thanks!
Tai Chi Club Meets Fridays 9:30 am With 30 members present at the first Tai Chi Club meeting, the meaning of Chi and where Chi exists was shared. Three basic principles of Wu Chi were
practiced: Regulate Body, Regulate Breath, and Regulate Mind. Also, the first 3 moves of the Chi Kung set were introduced. Does all this sound intriguing?
Join us at the next meeting on Friday, November 4 at 9:30 in the Town Hall. This day and time will be the regular time, unless there is a special event, like Veterans’ Day and Thanksgiving weekend. Check your monthly New Horizons Newsletter calendar.

It was reported to the
Newsletter Office that
one of our residents
fell while walking on
229th Street. One of our gardeners came to her
rescue and helped her up. She wanted to find out
her hero’s name so she could thank him. We
would also like to say a big thank you to Sam.
TRAVEL NEWS
As we indicated in the travel article printed in the last newsletter, it appears that there just isn’t sufficient interest in travel to maintain a travel club. We can’t seem to draw enough folks to fill the buses we need to take us on our trips. That means we have to end up cancelling our outings. Unfortunately this has happened time and again. Therefore, we find it necessary to dissolve the club as of the end of this year. There will be one more trip – on December 3, which will be our holiday party. Any comments regarding the dissolution of the Travel Club can be relayed to Ed Reilly at (310) 326-4710 or Sharon Rose at (310) 539-0811.
As I stated, our final hurrah will in fact be our holiday party on December 3. This should prove to be a memorable outing with which to end our club’s existence. We have planned a delicious holiday luncheon at Gulliver’s Restaurant in Irvine, followed by a special program at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa featuring the Vienna Boys Choir. The choir will be on a West Coast tour for the holidays and stopping by the Concert Hall for this “one day only” performance. As expected, this trip is full with wait list only.
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
