  • THE RESETTLEMENT OF INDOCHINESE REFUGEES IN THE UNITED STATES:

    A SELECTED BIBLIOGRAPHY

This bibliography includes a substantial selection of the

most current resource and reference materials presently avail-

able on the domestic resettlement of Indochinese refugees within

the United States. It lists materials from a wide variety of

sources, including books, journal articles, government reports,

Congressional hearings, and various published and unpublished

documents by individuals and private agencies. The aim of this

bibliography is to aid the reader in gaining entry into the

subject matter; iteis a selected resource,-and hence does not

attempt to include all materials on the subject.

The focus of this bibliography is on the recent resettle-

ment within the United States of refugees from Indochina. Hence,

materials covering other areas of related concern -- such as the

worldwide refugee situation, the resettlement of other refugee

populations, or general works on the-historical, sociological,

onlegal aspects of refugee studies -- have as a rule been

omitted. Individuals desiring to puisue these (and many addi-

tional) avenues of concern will find the following two biblio-

    graphies extremely helpful:

    1. "Refugee Research Bibliography," by Dr. BarryN. Stein, Professor of Social Science,Michigan State University, East Lansing,Michigan. Professor Stein's 35 page annotatedbibliography lists more than 275 sources, including general historical works, sourceson theory, definition, and classification, and

materials on such areas as persecution;flight; asylum; legal issues; refugeepolitics and policies; resettlement;adjustment and assimilation; mentalhealth; children; and agencies involvedin the refugee field.

Professor Stein's bibliography is soonto be published by the United NationHigh Commissioner for Refugees, Geneva.

.2. "Refugees: A Se2ected Bibliography,"included in the report Refugee Resettle-ment inthe U.S.: Time For A New Focus,SF Julia Viaila Taft, David S. North, and David.A.'Ford (published by the New.Transdentury Foundaticn, Washington, D.C..,in July, 1979.) This 16 page bipliographyis a byproduct of the. report to which itis appended -- a review .of U.S. refugeeand resettlement policies and practicesover the last twenty -five years. It isorganized under the following subjectheadings: Refugees - general; Hungarianrefugees; Cuban refugees; Indochineserefugees; Soviet refugees; Chileanrefugees; and International refugeeissues.

Refuaee Resettlement in the U.S.: Time'Eir-a New Focus may e or ered fromNew TransCentury,Foundation, 1789Columbia Road, N.W., Washington, D.C.20099.

In addition to these two bibliographies, we have listed

below -- in section (1) -- a number of other bibliographies

which readers will find helpful in pursuing avenues of interest

and concern related to refugee resettlement.
