Note from Pastor Cowser

“What is Good Worship?” “And they were calling to one another,

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty, the whole

earth is full of his glory.” -Isaiah 6:3

“What is Good Worship?” is a question that

pastors continuously ask themselves as they seek

to lead their congregations in the worship of God.

As a matter of fact, there is not a Sunday that passes in which I personally do

not find myself reflecting on what has taken place in the worship service.

Occasionally, my reflections are somewhat critical, especially, as it relates to

the sermon, but often times, I reflect on something that was either said or

done that continues to inspire me throughout the week. On surface level, I

believe we all, pastors and laity alike, are guilty of evaluating worship based

upon our own personal tastes and preferences. However, I believe good

worship is not something that we can manufacture or reproduce, but good

worship happens when we find ourselves open to the transforming power of

God through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

I am reminded of Isaiah, a prophet of the Lord’s vision of how God moved

him to a moment of confession and worship in the temple after experiencing

the death of his friend, King Uzziah, recorded in Isaiah chapter 6. What made

his worship experience so powerful was that he allowed God to transform

him. Isaiah experienced such a powerful transformation that he acclaimed to

the Lord: “Here I am. Send me.” I often wonder, when was the last time you

and I allowed God to touch our life in this way? One of the hallmarks of New

Beginnings Church is our powerful and transformative worship experience. I

challenge each of us to go a bit deeper into our worship. Simply put, let us be

intentional about preparing our hearts and minds to receive what it is that God

has for us, so that we can leave transformed for the glory of God. At the end

of the day, I believe it does not matter what we do in worship, if it does not

continue in how we live our lives each and every day.
