The partnership forms the basis of the Centre for Advanced Dental Research and Diagnosis, established in September with a donation from Dental Corporation of Canada Inc (dentalcorp).

Dr. Howard Tenenbaum, director of the Centre, professor of periodontology in the University of Toronto faculty of dentistry, and dentist-in-chief at Sinai Health System, says the close collabo-ration between clinicians and research-ers will ultimately improve patient care. “We will be following the concept of ‘chairside to bench to chairside,’ which will inextricably link the Centre’s clinical program with the faculty of dentistry’s research laboratories,” he says. “Devoting

our efforts to understanding the basic biological processes underpinning the conditions being treated in the clinics will, we hope, eventually lead to better treatment for patients.”

According to Dr. Tenenbaum, the Centre will pave the way for the development of novel ways to treat conditions like implant-related diseases, refractory perio dontitis and gingival attrition, using patient biodata and even psychosocial data to understand better the etiology and mechanisms underpinning these conditions as well as their impact on overall health and wellbeing. NEW CENTRE FOR ADVANCED DENTAL RESEARCH AND DIAGNOSISto focus on under-researched oral diseases

Researchers and clinicians from the University of Toronto faculty of dentistry and clinicians from Mount Sinai Hospital are forming a new partnership to focus on the study of under-researched and complex oral conditions.

Devoting our efforts to understanding the

basic biological processes underpinning the conditions

being treated in the clinics will, we hope, eventually lead to

better treatment for patients.
