!Directors Tip of the Month ! When in doubt talk it out…what I mean by this is ALWAYS use verbal communication while on the court playing doubles. So often we see partners who are hoping and wishing for their partners to be in the right place at the right time. Always have your partner with you on the court, when you get separated make sure you pull back with them or move up with them, try to stay together and this can be during a point. Stay together mentally so you will cover all of the court physically!

Member of the Month The member of the month for September is a unique gentleman. He is out here every Wednesday working on his game to compete with his fellow tennis enthusiasts. He always plays the game with passion, with a never say die attitude that carries him all over the court.
He has a powerful serve and one might say a dangerous “back” hand. He is a wonderful father to three amazing young men and a devoted family man and husband to a wonderful tennis player in her own right, his lovely wife.
Do you know who he is??? Have you seen him out on the courts??? It is none other than Dr. Curt Frogley. Thank you, Curt, for having and giving the love of tennis to all you

Golf NewsAROUND THE COURSE WITH TODD HOLT
The date for the course opening will be September 29, 2017. I would like to thank everyone for your patience during this summer renovation project. When you come out to play you will notice that we not only converted the greens to G-12 Bermuda, but upgraded all teeing grounds, sand traps, collars and approaches and did a much needed multi-aerification/rolling of the fairways . Everything was done with the simple concept of bringing NBGCC to the best level of conditioning possible for our members and guest.!!Our greens are coming in great and we have a few small areas that we are mending. On average, during a Bermuda renovation, there are usually 2 to 3 areas on each green that, for various reasons, take a little more TLC. Please note that these were sprigged at the end of June, so we are actually at the 60 day mark as of this writing . The great news is we no longer have any summer decline and going forward you will be treated to greens that hold up to our year round climate and will thrive during the height of the playing season .!!Tee's have been created and expanded so all golfers have a level and fair beginning tee shot, regardless of gender or playing ability. They are surfaced with Celebration Bermuda grass, which is denser and offers more rapid recovery from divots, foot traffic and general wear and tear. By doing this, the tee tops will also be in better shape with golfers playing a set of tees designed for them instead of small areas accommodating multiple levels of play.!!Sand traps have been redone with new drainage, capillary concrete and Tour Angle 45 white sand, mined from outside Augusta, Georgia. The sand traps will look great and play consistently all throughout your round. As a return on investment, they also hold up to 4" of rain (and possibly greater) in a 12 hour window with no washouts. This will allow my staff to focus on other areas after heavy rains and save about $2000 of labor saving per rain event.!!Collars and approaches are the same Celebration Bermuda grass, as on the tees, and you will find they offer a wonderful lie to play any club of preference.!!The fairways, while still a mix of common and 419 Hybrid Bermuda grass, have been aerified no less than 6 times and rolled 3 times each with a vibratory roller . This will allow our mowers to cut evenly and allow golfers with a very true ball roll and bounce.!!When the golf course opens, it will be in good shape and play well. The conditioning will only get better as we go through a growing season to really address all areas of small bumps that come with a 90 day high end renovation. I will follow up with a more accurate email with what to expect as we get a week out from September 29th.!

Mission: The New Bern Golf & Country Club Strive for 35 Golf Programs mission is to provide the junior golfers a chance to learn the basics of the game and a chance to improve as a player. Juniors will learn the rules of the game, proper etiquette, good sportsmanship, and having fun with other junior golfers. At the end of this program the junior golfer will be able to go out on the golf course by their self and know all aspects of the game. !Fees: For $100/month you receive: !

There are two semesters in the year. Fall is September-November. Spring is February-April. !How it works: All junior golf students will start at the same distance when starting this program. After they complete the stage by passing with a score of 35 or better, then they will proceed to the next stage of the program. Failure to complete the stage will require the student to try the same stage again. There are 6 stages in the program: !
• Stage One- The first stage will require the student to pass from the fringe to 30 yards. • Stage Two- The second stage will require the student to pass from 30 to 70 yards. • Stage Three- The third stage will require the student to pass from 70 to 120 yards. • Stage Four- The fourth stage will require the student to pass from 120 to 180 yards. • Stage Five- The fifth stage will require the student to pass from 180 to 230 yards. • Stage Six- The sixth and final stage will require the student to pass from the tee box
according to their age. !After the completion of Stage Three, students will be able to play without an adult. !Testing: During a month there will be 3-4 testing periods for the players to advance stages. These tests will be scheduled weekly and will give the player the on course experience to improve their game. Anyone is allowed to caddie for the student when they are taking the test. Students must walk during the completion of the hole. They can be shuttled by cart to the next hole. !
