NEV.'S RLLEASE National Gallery of Art Washington, D. C. FOR RELEASE: April 29, 1948 WASHIilGTOH, April 29: David E. Finley, Director, National Gallery of Art, announced today that the Army had requested the National Gallery to select from the 202 paintings on loan from the Berlin museums approxi- mately 50 pictures which are considered as most likely to suffer damage or deterioration if sent on an exhibition tour. Fifty-two paintings were chosen by the follow- ing committee, which met at the National Gallery on April twenty-seventh: John Walker, Chairman, Chief Curator, National Gallery of Art; Daniel Catton Rich, Director of the Chicago Art Institute; George Stout, Director of the Worcester Art Museum; Stephen S. Pichetto, Consultant Restorer of the National Gallery of Art and of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Dr. Irene Kuehnel, formerly Curator of Paintings of the Kaiser Friedrich Museum and at present attached to Military Government in the American Zone, Gerncny. '-The attached list shows the paintings selected by this committee for immediate return to Germany. # 7/ #

FOR RELEASE: April 29, 1948

WASHIilGTOH, April 29: David E. Finley, Director,

National Gallery of Art, announced today that the Army

had requested the National Gallery to select from the

202 paintings on loan from the Berlin museums approxi­

mately 50 pictures which are considered as most likely

to suffer damage or deterioration if sent on an exhibition

tour. Fifty-two paintings were chosen by the follow­

ing committee, which met at the National Gallery on
