MONTHLY FARE ADVISOR - May 2014

Never Pay Retail For Airline SeatsNot when you can rely on ticketing specialists like us to bargain with the airlines for unsold seats at the last minute and pass the savings on to you. We have a special relationship with most major carriers and know how to work with them to help solve the biggest sales problem they have – flying with empty seats. Even up to the day of departure!

If a plane takes off and a seat is not sold, that is profit lost forever. This is true for domestic flights as well as international flights, for all classes of airline seats – coach, business and first class. But it is particularly serious for international long haul premium seats.

International premium passengers comprise only 8% of total passengers but make up at least 26% of overall revenue – and even more in profitability. So an empty premium seat is particularly costly.

A $10,000 First Class seat from New York to London is worth absolutely nothing once the boarding gate closes. International airlines have a huge incentive to make sure all of their premium seats are sold - even at the last minute, even at deep discounts.

We are a clearinghouse, a last minute discount distribution channel for premium, international air tickets that airlines can not otherwise sell or can’t be seen selling at a deep discount. They still want to sell the tickets but they can’t afford to directly undercut their other highly profitable channels - their own website, corporate deals, and the bulk-seat sales they may make to travel agents and tour operators.

Because of our client set, people like you who often travel in the front of the plane for business or leisure, we get these tickets - with all their associated benefits - frequent flyer miles, premium lounge access, priority boarding. And because we get these deals, we can offer them to you.

Your City Not Listed? No problem, call us. Airfares change hundreds of thousands of times a day. We may have just gotten an international deal that’s perfect for you. We can grab it and build you a customized itinerary incorporating all your flights from your point of origin to your final destination, and return. We can handle it all from your first “Welcome Aboard” to your final “Buh Bye.” The most important part is locking in the discounted international segment - that’s where we can save you the most money. And of course, we’ll be available if you need to change it while you are traveling!

Planning A Vacation? Or A Special Getaway?Spring premium fares to Europe really depends on the route and the airline. If you get an alert for a good fare – say in the $1,900 to $2,500 range from the East Coast, or $2,700 and under from the West Coast, then our suggestion is to grab it. Why? Although we spend a lot of time looking at fares and studying what the trends are, so many variables enter the pricing equation that we think you need to move when things are “good” rather than trying to get the absolute best price.

One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Vienna is a place of luxury and magic, still redolent of the decadence of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the imperial Habsburgs, and yet still haunted by the horrors undergone in the twenty-first century. A city rich in history, from the classical composers like Mozart intimately connected with the city to the rich imperial histories preserved in castles like the Schloss Schonbrunn and Schloss Belvedere, Vienna is well regarded as the "jewel of Central Europe", a title which it richly deserves.

If you're just passing through Vienna, take a look at this guide for what to do with one full day in the city.

BREAKFAST: The Viennese breakfast is a vital part of the day - intimately connected as it is with two of Vienna's greatest institutions, coffee and pastries. Stop at any cafe - we especially recommend Sperl, on Gumpendorferstrasse, with a rich literary heritage - for a Brauner cafe - or a special Viennese "whipped cream" on top - and a strudel pastry. Read the newspaper and meditate on existentialism.MORNING: If you haven't got time to go out to Schloss Schonbrunn, once an imperial palace of Emperor Franz-Joseph and the notorious Empress Sissi, head instead to the Castle Belvedere, much closer to the city centre - near the main parks. There you can see many highlights of Austrian art - most notably, Klimt's "The Kiss" and other heritage works of the nineteenth-century Jungenstil era. When you've finished, pass through the park on the way into the city centre to see the famous statue of Strauss, then head directly into the historical Innere Stadt, a tiny quarter easily traversed in 10-15 minutes. Visit Stephansdom, the bizarre and funky Gothic cathedral, and the Hofburg .

LUNCH: Head to the Naschmarkt - the flea market - near the Karlsplatz Metro Station (designed by Otto Wagner, and a masterpiece of art nouveau architecture.) There you can find all sorts of food stalls selling fresh food, as well as international and inexpensive restaurants. AFTERNOON: Not far off is the Museumsquartier, the newly modernized and trendy district of Vienna that includes many of the city's finest museums, especially those specializing in modern and contemporary art. The Leopold-Statler has a fine Schiele collection. Then head to the Hotel Sacher near the Opera House for the famous Sacher Torte - only they know the "real" recipe.

Vienna - Upcoming Festivals & Events

Vienna Opera BallThis is part of the Vienna Fasching (Carnival) celebrations and is always held on the last Thursday of the Carnival season at the State Opera House.

May FestivalThere is a traditional Mayday Festival held on May 1 in the Prater Park.

Vienna Festival9 May - 15 JuneThe original Vienna Festival (Wiener Festwochen) is one of the most prominent cultural events in Europe and combines all sorts of disciplines in events which take place over the five weeks.

The Vienna City Spring Marathon Held in either late April or early May, the marathon sees well over 10,000 participants taking to the streets.

Austrian Business Class At A Glance

Austrian Airlines - World’s Most Valuable Boarding PassYour Austrian Airlines boarding pass is the door opener to galleries and museums. Enjoy various benefits and free entrances at our partners all over the world. Top-Deals in top-restaurants and culinary highlights within the Austrian Airlines Destinations. All you have to do is show your boarding pass with OS-Flight-Number at the cooperation partners. It also works perfectly fine with your mobile ticket on your mobile phone as well as with your Austrian Web Check-in boarding pass. All the offers are available for you ten days after date of flight.

DRINKS AND DINNER: Head back to the trendy Gumpendorferstrasse to Cafe Phil, right across from Sperl. Phil is a "retro-cafe," combining a bookstore, disco, film store, furniture store, bar, and cafe - with amazing all-day breakfasts and a killer indie music soundtrack over the loudspeakers. Free wifi. Then head down the street to the charming Zum Roten Elephanten, which serves up traditional Viennese fare.

EVENING: Head to the magnificent nineteenth-century Staatsoper. Tickets range from hugely expensive private boxes to ten euro standing student tickets or obscured vision seating, and everything in between. The operas are of the highest quality - and each seat has its own touch screen with subtitles in the language of your choice - and the ambiance is elegant; the Viennese still dress up for the opera, so be sure to look smart!

Austrian Airlines - Flights to North AmericaThe flight offering to the destinations of Washington and Chicago will be expanded in the summer of 2014. As of July 1, 2014, a Boeing 777 will fly to Washington on a daily basis instead of a Boeing 767, which comprises an additional offering of 90 seats per flight. Depending on the specific configuration, the Boeing 777 offers room for about 308 passengers on board, whereas the Boeing 767 features seating for 220 passengers. Due to the extensive demand, Austrian Airlines will fly to Chicago daily starting in May 2014 compared to five flights offered at the present time. The existing daily flight service to Toronto in Canada operating a Boeing 767 rounds off the airline’s offering to North America.

*Austrian Airlines does not have a separate first class service.
