International Dispute Resolution Services

LCIAOne of the longest established of the international arbitration institutions, the LCIA is also one of the most modern and forward

looking. It is an international organisation offering a worldwide service.

LCIA mediationThe LCIA administers rules under its international mediation procedure, which may be used by parties who are already committed to

mediate, by virtue of contractual dispute resolution provisions, and by parties who have not provided for mediation, but who wish to

mediate their dispute, either in an attempt to avoid, or during the course of, litigation or arbitration.

NeutralsThe LCIA draws on its own database of the most eminent and appropriately qualified arbitrators and mediators, from a wide range

of professional backgrounds and disciplines. There is, however, neither a closed list of individual arbitrators or mediators nor a closed

list of nationalities. All arbitrators and mediators are required to declare and to maintain their independence and impartiality.

the dispute.

KluwerArbitration

www.KluwerArbitration.com

KluwerArbitration now includes two time-saving practicetools: a set of 5 easy-to-use question and answer SmartCharts, edited by Clifford Chance LLP, and a search-for-an-arbitrator tool, the IAI Arbitrator Tool, developed inconjunction with the International Arbitration Institute (IAI).

Comparative Smart ChartsThe question and answer Smart Charts allow you to quickly examineand/or compare specific content by particular jurisdiction or arbitralinstitution. The charts include:

■NEW Appointment and Challenge of Arbitrators: The ability to constitute an impartial and suitably-qualified Tribunal (and, correspondingly, challenging partial or unsuitable arbitrators) is thefirst critical step in ensuring the procedural integrity of arbitrationproceedings and, hence, the valid and binding nature of any Awardrendered. It will assist in complying with any formal requirements and challenging partial or otherwise unsuitable nominees in whateverjurisdiction the Tribunal is seated. It covers 21 jurisdictions.

■NEW Confidentiality in International Arbitration: It assists in knowing whether the jurisdiction in which arbitration is seated will treat the arbitration as confidential. It covers 21 jurisdictions.

■ Arbitral Institutions: Providing at-a-glance comparative summary of the procedural rules of the major international Arbitral Institutions. It covers 22 institutions.

■Drafting Arbitration Agreements: Assisting with the drafting of validand binding arbitration agreements by providing a summary of themain components of an agreement. It covers 37 jurisdictions.

■ Sovereign Immunity: It provides a comparative summary of thecircumstances in which, and legal basis on which immunity fromenforcement may be claimed by States and State entities across key jurisdictions. It covers 27 jurisdictions.

The Smart Charts have been edited byAudley Sheppard, Clifford Chance LLP, a well-known and very highly respectedarbitration partner based in London. They offerpractitioners an opportunity to review a topicor procedure that is key to the practice ofarbitration and gain an answer across manyjurisdictions or institutions.
