Nettleham is a picturesque village, widely acknowledged tobe one of the most attractive in the county of Lincolnshire.

Located four miles north-east of the historic city ofLincoln, it is situated between two old Roman roads - theA158 leading to Wragby and the east coast, and theA46 (Ermine Street) northwards to the River Humberand beyond.

Nettleham was an important source of fresh water forLindum Colonia (Lincoln) during the Roman occupation ofBritain, however, the history of the village goes muchfurther back in time, with impressive artefacts from theBronze Age being found in the area.

In the 12th century, the Bishops of Lincoln becameLords of the Manor and lived in great splendour in theBishops Manor House, located south of High Streetopposite Watermill Lane. Demolished in the 17th century,little evidence now remains of this once magnificentresidence, other than a number of grassy mounds in thefield adjacent to the Methodist Chapel.

For many years the village was a small, rural community.It continues to grow and thrive today, with many socialactivities, services and amenities.
