Remember when you are communicating over the internet, although you are not looking at someone, it is still a person who is hearing what you are saying. Be polite and treat people the way you want to be treated. Can’t Take It Back What you put onto the internet cannot be taken back. Whatever you send out will be in cyberspace forever, even if it is deleted. Be careful what you send into the world. Pandora’s Box There is no end to the internet. Once you click “send”, you have no control over where information goes from there. Anyone can click “forward”. Even if you think you are sending information to your best friend, it is not confidential. One wrong click and your personal information can be sent to everyone in their contacts. Save personal information for personal conversations. Tone of Voice It is up to the reader to interpret what is being said. As a writer, be aware that what you are saying may be misinterpreted. Do NOT type in all CAPS unless you are looking to emphasize something specific. Be direct and precise in your communication. Put It on the Fridge Be careful what you put onto the internet. Facebook, Myspace, and blogs are accessible even by your parents. Do not put information on the internet that you would not want your parents to know. Putting personal information on the internet is as good as putting it on the refrigerator in your kitchen.
