• Core members include an architect, an ex-director of a centralized Indian bank, a chartered accountant, a doctoral scientist, a retired teacher and administrator
About Nerur
• Village of about 6000 residents in rural Konkan area (Sindhudurg district) India.
• Approximately 80% below poverty line
• Literacy rate is about 23% in regional language with access only to vernacular medium of teaching

Past initiatives• Started a free ambulance service
• Established drinking water for primary vernacular schools and pipelines of drinking water from the main supply to the housing clusters
• “Adopted" three children every year in the education scheme whereby the pratishthan pays for all their education until college
• Provided loans to empower people to start their small cottage businesses
Future Goals
• Start an English medium school in Nerur: Currently, students need to travel to Kudal (~5 miles away) for an English medium school
• Start a vocational training center: Focus on building skills in plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, catering and healthcare support areas.
Our Plan for an English Medium School
• This school will have classes from balwadi to 4th grade
• Teachers with diploma in education (D.Ed.) or diploma in early childhood care and education (D.E.C.C.Ed)
• Medium of teaching will be English
