• Neptune is named after the Greek god Poseidon.

• Poseidon is the god of the sea, Neptune was called Neptune because it was one important god who did not have a planet named in his honor.

Page 3: Neptune

• Neptune’s day is 17.24 hours which means it takes that long to spin around.

• The revolution of this planet takes longer than our lifetime, 165 years.

Page 4: Neptune

• The minimum distance from the Earth is 4.3 billion kilometers, the maximum is unknown.

• Neptune’s minimum distance from the sun is 4.46 billion km and the maximum is 4.54 billion km.

• It is the 8th planet from the sun and the 6th from earth.

• The density of Neptune is 1,638 kg/m^3.

• Neptune is the 4th largest planet.

• The diameter of Neptune is 49,500 km.

• The volume of Neptune is 6.25 x 1013 km3.

• The surface area of Neptune is 7.64 x 109 km2.

• The mass of Neptune is 1.02 x 1026 kg.

• The surface temperature is -218°C. During day= 350°C, Night=-170°C.

• Neptune's atmosphere is made of 80% molecular hydrogen, 19% helium, and 1.5% methane gas.

• Also has hydrogen deutoride(HD) and ethane(C2H6).

• There are 13 moons. They are Naiad, Thalassa, Despina, Galatea, Larissa, Proteus, Triton, Nereid, S/2002 N1, S/2002 N2, S/2002 N3, and S/2002 N4.

• Physical characteristics are molten rock and metal, and has a 47° rotational.

• Since its so far from the sun, it is really cold.• It is blue because the methane in the atmosphere

reflects the blue light from the sun back into space.

Page 8: Neptune

• It would be extremely windy and cold, earth has never had this much wind or coldness

• You would not last more than one week, there is no oxygen and a lot of harmful chemicals.

•The water is also unsafe and would kill you if you tried to drink it.

Page 9: Neptune

• Scientists today believe that life on Neptune is likely to not be possible because of the hostile winds and temperature.

• It is impossible because there is no atmosphere and oxygen for any life to breathe in.

• If there was a life form with a very large jacket and an oxygen tank, then possible life forms could live there.
