NEPEAN REDEVELOPMENT

Stage 2 funding

announced!

On 25 March 2018, Premier Gladys Berejiklian,

Minister for Health Brad Hazzard, Minister for

Western Sydney and Penrith MP Stuart Ayres and

Mulgoa MP Tanya Davies visited Nepean Hospital

to announce a further $450 million towards Stage

2 of the Nepean redevelopment.

The announcement is in addition to the $550

million Stage 1 Nepean Redevelopment which is

transforming hospital and community health

services for Western Sydney. A $26 million multi-

storey car park is also being delivered as part of

Stage 1 to support the expansion of services.

Stage One is progressing well with construction

underway on the new hospital car park and schematic

designs soon to be unveiled for a new hospital tower.

Planning for Stage 2 will get underway later this year and

construction will commence following the completion of

Stage 1.

During the Stage 2 planning phase, the redevelopment

team will work closely with hospital staff, patients and

the broader community to determine the clinical

priorities for Stage 2 and ensure the future health needs

of local communities can be met.

NEPEAN REDEVELOPMENT

Katoomba Community Dialysis

project continues to progress

Work is progressing well on the planning and design of the new $4.7

million Community Dialysis Centre at Blue Mountains Hospital.

As part of the detail design process, the project team and key health

representatives recently visited the new Community Dialysis Centre at

Mount Druitt Hospital to view their design features, and find out what is

working well in their new unit that the team can share or adopt at the

new Blue Mountains facility.

Construction is scheduled to start in the coming months, following the

completion of the detailed design process.

The new renal centre will include

six renal dialysis treatment

spaces, which will reduce the

need for Blue Mountains patients

to travel outside of their

community for treatment. Some

patients have to travel up to

three times per week for

treatment at Nepean Hospital, so

this is a great outcome for them.

Car park construction update

Construction on the new multi-storey car park is moving

forward with the demolition of Pialla now complete.

The new car park is being prioritised to free up space on

campus for the new Stage 1 hospital tower. It will feature

more than 600 car spaces (including 14 mobility impaired

spaces) and a rooftop helipad.

Site remediation works are now underway to ensure the

site is ready for the foundations to be laid. (Below and

below left show car park works).

Christopher Gibb and Jan Hookkee visit the Mount Druitt

Community Dialysis Centre for inspiration.

NEPEAN REDEVELOPMENT

Nepean Cancer Care Centre

expansion

As part of Stage 1 of our redevelopment, the current Cancer Centre is receiving an upgrade and expansion of services to meet the current needs of the growing local population.

This includes reconfiguring the centre to double the number of chemotherapy treatment spaces from 15 to 30 and expanding the footprint of the centre to incorporate a second radiation therapy bunker.

The planning and design phase is almost complete with work scheduled on the Cancer Centre in the coming months.

Staff, patients and visitors will be given suitable notice if there are any changes to access or parking during construction.

Changes to parking and

access onsite

In the coming months, there will be additional parking

and access changes at Nepean Hospital to progress

Stage 1 of the Nepean Redevelopment.

Extensive planning is currently underway to ensure the

hospital can maintain the number of parking spaces on

campus when redevelopment acquires the use of the

Somerset Street (next to East Block) car park for the

new hospital tower.

Similar to our cancer centre works, every effort will be made to minimise disruption to patients and staff during this process, and suitable notice will be given before any changes are implemented.

We appreciate your support and patience as we

progress this important community project.
