My Country of choice is Nepal
NEPAL According to Wikipedia, Nepal is a landlocked country. This
means it is enclosed by land. It is located in South Asia and is the worlds youngest republic.
On the north border of Nepal you can find China. On the south, east, and west is India.
Hinduism and Buddhism are the most practiced religions.
Population to date is 30 million and it is the 93rd largest country.
FACTS•According to About.com "Women's History", the women of Nepal typically work harder and longer than men. When there is a food shortage, the female child is typically fed less than the male child.•The senior women in the Nepal country play a commanding role in the family. They control expenses, planting, harvesting, and resources. •The woman's standing in society was contingent on their husband or parents social and economical status.•According to Wikipedia, women of Nepal are subordinate to men in pretty much every aspect of life.
The relative status of the women in Nepal varies from one ethnic group to the next. For example. The women of Tibeto-
Nepalese communities generally was better than the women of Pahari and Newari. Women from the low caste group enjoy more
freedom and autonomy than Pahari and Newari women.
More facts.. If a woman of Nepal is
widowed, they are considered BOKSHI (witches) and they are subject to extreme abuse and discrimination.
People believe that once a woman is widowed, she harbors evil powers to harm herself and others.
According to the latest statistics available, a woman is raped every 54 minutes somewhere in Nepal. (WFN)
There is a tradition in some parts of Nepal of keeping women in cow-sheds while they are menstruating. This practice is common in the far western districts of the country.
What's being done?"The Women's Foundation of Nepal". Is an organization that was founded in 1988. The mission of WFN is to help women and children be treated equally, regardless of caste, religion, or race. This is done by increasing individual and public awareness of opportunities for economic and social development."The Mountain Fund" is another organization founded in 2005 that is associated with the women of Nepal. Not only women but also poverty. Their goal is "to create healthy, vibrant mountain communities where people have access to healthcare, education and economic opportunity in an environment where human rights are valued and respected."
