Our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at John Muir Health’s Walnut Creek Medical Center cares for newborns and infants with a variety of complex diagnoses including congenital and those that are acquired both pre- and postnatal.
About Our Level III NICU■ 35 beds in private rooms
■ 24/7 coverage by neonatologists
■ Quality Oversight Committee, comprised of both John Muir Health and Stanford Children’s Health physicians
■ Certified by California Children’s Services (CCS)
■ Neonatal surgery
Who We Treat■ Premature newborns (23+ weeks)
■ Term infants, up to 44 weeks corrected gestational age
Complex Neonatal Conditions Treated
■ Respiratory failure - Mechanical ventilation, high
frequency, iNO, CPAP and nasal cannula
■ Congenital anomalies requiring surgery
- Volvulus, bowel atresia, perforation, gastroschisis, omphalocele, CCAM
■ Sepsis and shock
■ Jaundice, including need for exchange transfusion
■ Neurologic conditions, including seizure activity
Multidisciplinary, Neonatal Critical Care Team
■ Neonatal intensivists and critical care nurses
■ Critical care respiratory therapists
■ Medical and surgical sub-specialties, including:
- Cardiology - Orthopedics - Endocrinology - Pulmonology - Gastroenterology - Surgery - Infectious Diseases - Urology - Nephrology - Anesthesiology - Medical Imaging - Neurology - Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) - Hematology / Oncology
