A note from the president June 2021
Dear Neighbors,
Our first major event is just around the corner! We will gather on Thursday, June 17th at the Pinewild Country Club’s Patio for our Summer Picnic. Dinner for members is complements of NOP. We are sold out for this event, but you can still make a reservation by June 7th to be added to our wait list. Please
see the invitation in the newsletter. We held a very successful and fun evening with our newest members at a “Meet & Greet” on April 28th.
We had 24 new members attend the event and plan to continue these gatherings in the future. NOP has a total membership of 493 members!
Dining Out will start again in July at 195 American Fusion in Southern Pines. August brings our next two events, the Wine Tasting & Dinner and the Bridge Luncheon. Invitations are found in this newsletter. The Bridge Marathons have begun.
Book Clubs also are starting to meet in person and our newest Book Club #10 is up and running. Any NOP member that is interested in joining a Book Club should contact our Book Club Coordinator, Regina
Paquette. Please contact her via [email protected]. The annual Book Club Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, October 26th at CCNC. Please note that available dates were limited and we were unable to secure the venue for another weekday in late October or early November.
Recipe and Game Clubs have been meeting for Bunco, Hand, Knee & Foot, & Mexican Train. Linda Walters is organizing a new game, Phase 10. If you are interested, please reach out to her at

We have worked with the restaurant to offer you a fun, relaxed evening with your
Neighbors of Pinehurst.
The entire restaurant is reserved for our group that evening.

Couples Bunco Night
Couples Bunco Night will meet June 4th at Myrna Spencer’s, 153 Juniper Creek Blvd (#6) at 6:00 p.m. Members bring an appetizer to share and $5 per person to join in the fun. Hand, Knee, & Foot Hand Knee & Foot is meeting on May 27th at the home of Bunny Cross, 35 Glasgow Drive (Pinewild) at 1 p.m. Hand, Knee, & Foot is a variation of Canasta that requires six decks and nimble hands capable of holding 20 cards or more. Ladies Marathon Bridge
Attention All Bridge Players! We have many new members since we shut down a year ago with COVID 10, some of whom are bridge players of all levels. There are about 85 players, men and women, currently playing bridge in NOP groups and marathons. I know there are bridge players out there who are not yet in
a group or marathon. I’d even be interested in starting a Men’s Marathon . . . Act 2 has one and so does Pinehurst Country Club. If you are interested in playing bridge call Phyllis Clark at 215-8730 or email ([email protected]).
I am sure there are couples groups who play that are not currently supported by NOP. It might be to your advantage to send me your membership list to see if your group can benefit from Neighbor’s
support. Grandslammers – Thanks to COVID 19 the ladies’ marathons have been on hold for more than a year.
Finally, Grandslammer LXVII and LXVIII have begun to play again. I have four teams signed up for Grandslammer LXIX, so those of you who are interested in starting a
marathon this spring need to sign up now! Hostesses, please remember to schedule your games as early as possible giving your opponents several
options. Everyone has busy schedules, so set up your game at least a month in advance. Thank you. Need a Partner? Give Phyllis a call at 215-8730 or email her at [email protected]. She will try to hook you up with other players who are looking for a partner. Have you considered playing in another

Couples Marathon Bridge
A new Couples Marathon has begun! Sign up to join the next one.
Games are scheduled so that you play with a different couple once a month for seven (7) months. If you enjoy bridge, this is a great way to meet new couples as well as spend an evening with friends. To sign up, send a check for $15/couple, made payable to Neighbors of Pinehurst, to Lynne Moore, 32 Lasswade
Drive, Pinehurst, NC, 28374. Checks may be mailed or dropped in the basket on Lynne’s porch. If there are any questions, call Lynne at 235-3929 or email her at [email protected].
How Marathon Bridge Works – Each Marathon consists of seven months of scheduled play with a different couple each month. There are no games scheduled in December. Couples may schedule play at their convenience during the eight-month period. Signups are on a first-come-first-served basis. When a group
fills up, new signups are placed on a waiting list until there are eight teams to form a new group. This procedure continues throughout the year. So, if you are finishing one marathon and wish to continue or sign up for an additional one send in your check. For more information contact Lynne.
