The Challenge!
SNAPSHOT: energy production/supply
The Challenge!SNAPSHOT: Aging infrastructure
Solutions?
Solutions to these problems are often found at the government level through:
• New regulations e.g. Green Building Act, 5-cents bag law, new building code, TOD zoning, RPS etc.
• Incentives e.g. grants for solar installations, low-income weatherization assistance, etc.
• Programs e.g. bike-sharing• Infrastructure e.g. circulator, streetcar
• … what about community-based actions?!
• Community can take the lead in localized energy production and in energy saving
• Community is a key stakeholder in advancing smart-growth policies and development
• Community can positively impact VMT and congestion by using other means of transportation
• Community can positively impact storm-water management
• … And much more!
The community role
What is NSIPP?
• Participatory planning process that results in a road-map of community-led strategies and actions to create more sustainable neighborhoods
• Create a system to track community progress through neighborhood sustainability indicators
