What is Chain of Custody Certification (COC)?

COC is a way of tracking paper throughout its life cycle, from the forest to the point of sale. COC is chain of ownership! For an organization to use the FSC logo on their materials, each part of the chain must be FSC COC certified!

What does FSC Certification address?

• Social issues: worker safety, training, and communication and conflict resolution with stakeholders.

• Environmental issues: aquatic areas, high conservation forests, and threatened and endangered species.

• Systems issues: management plans, monitoring, chain of custody and

inventory.

• FSC Recycled – Paper is manufactured from 100% post-consumer reclaimed fiber, supporting the responsible use of forest resources (Label: FSC_RE_1).

• Who owns the chasing-arrows logo?• No one! The logo was developed by Gary Anderson

in 1970, a 23-year-old art student who created the logo for an environmental contest sponsored by the Container Corp of America, now part of Stone-Smurfit Corporation.

• Non-regulated, recycled logoThe chasing-arrows logo is unprotected. Anyone can use it!

• The industry ‘standard’ for using the logo signifies that a minimum of 30% post consumer waste has been used in the making of un-coated papers.
