This year has brought many changes to Nease High School including things like additional relocateables and approval for a new building on campus. These have been great additions to our school! As you have read in the news, there have been many changes due to legislation from the State level. This includes the level of rigor required in classrooms with the Florida State Standards along with maintaining the Class Size Amendment. Because of this continued focus, electives will continue to stay trimmed for next year so there will be little room for schedule changes. Unfortunately, students may not get their first or second choices. The good news is that through legislation we will be getting some relief from the testing requirements. Those changes will be coming in the next couple of months. Nease Ranked #79 in the Nation!

Letter from the Principal First let me say that it is an honor to be the Principal of Nease High School. We have done many things together this year and the parents, students and staff are truly a family that cares for one another and wants the best for all students. I am looking forward to the great things that will happen here next year!

As we go to print with this newsletter, we are winding down the current school year (2014-2015) and preparing for next school year (2015-2016). Principal’s Message continues... Even with some of these drastic changes, Nease High School will continue to be a great school that truly prepares students for college level work or ready-to-work skills. The word for next year for all of us will be “patient” as we will all have to be patient within our constraints. I know that we will continue to work together to do what is best for all students!

We continue to look to improve Allen D. Nease High School to become the best high school in the State of Florida and in the Nation. Please be a part of this goal by becoming involved. The SAC and the PTSO are looking for members to help us better our school environment and culture. Join us as we move from Good to Great!

Nease Navy JROTC 6th Best in the NationNease JROTC competed in Navy National Drill Championships

PONTE VEDRA – Nease Navy JROTC competed in the Navy National Drill Championships on April 10-11 in Pensacola against the top 25 teams in the United States – the team finished as the 6th best out of 600 in the nation.

Nease qualified for the Navy Nationals by winning its northern Florida drill competitions earlier this year. The 40-person team then won first place among the 59 schools in northern Florida and the state of Georgia in the Area 12 Drill Championships held in Douglas, Georgia on March 7. That victory earned the team a berth in the Navy National Drill Championships in Pensacola.

“The level of competition was incredibly high”, said cadet battalion commander Jack Kahlbaugh. “We knew we had to bring our A-game in every competition.”

The 25 teams competed in a variety of athletic, academic and marching drill competitions. The team finished third in Personnel Inspection – the highest scored and most prestigious event at the championships. In addition, they took home trophies in Color Guard performance and the 16 by 100 relay race.

The Nease Navy JROTC program has been recognized and designated as a distinguished unit within Area 12 for the past 14 years. The 237 cadet corps draws from students throughout St. Johns County from Ponte Vedra Beach, World Golf Village, Jullington Creek and St. Augustine.
