pTBnet Background and the 2nd International Meeting on Childhood TB pTBnet is an international network of more than 200 clinicians and researchers. pTBnet was founded in 2009 and promotes clinically oriented research in the field of childhood tuberculosis by sharing and developing ideas and research protocols. The aims of the network are: • to enhance the understanding of the paediatric aspects of active and latent tuberculosis • to facilitate collaborative research studies on childhood TB in Europe • to provide expert opinion through excellence in science and teaching • to harmonise healthcare delivery/approaches within Europe • to establish an evidence base for diagnosis and treatment of TB in children

The first International Meeting on Childhood Tuberculosis was organised by pTBnet in Padova, Italy in March 2013. This meeting was pivotal in bringing together experts in many aspects of paediatric TB and was attended by over 100 delegates from across the globe. The feedback was very positive, and several projects emerged as a result of the meeting including multicentre clinical research and database projects, and also clinical activities such as interactive online case discussions. There has been considerable progress in research, drug development and programme delivery in paediatric TB since 2013. The 2nd conference provided updates on this progress, and its planned to established the meeting as a regular event. Themes included: Towards zero death - tackling childhood TB in Europe and abroad Clinical course of childhood TB New insights into an old disease – from basic science to new diagnostics MDR TB – a new threat The meeting specifically aimed to bring together clinicians from high tuberculosis-incidence countries in Eastern Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union, and from Western Europe. Vilnius was chosen as a venue to facilitate this, and reduced registration and travel and accommodation bursaries were provided. In total 13 bursaries were awarded: 10 full bursaries (covering registration, travel, accommodation and networking dinner) were given to delegates from Ukraine (9) and Poland (1) and a further 3 delegates, 2 from Lithiuania and 1 from an NGO in the USA had their fees waived. Social Media networking The social media platforms will support ongoing networking for those who attended the meeting, and for others who have an interest in research, epidemiology, clinical practice and programme delivery in this field. The platforms will also be used for promotion of upcoming events and the planned 3rd International Meeting on Childhood TB in 2019/2020. www.facebook.com/ptbnetgroup/ #ptbnet2018 www.twitter.com/ptbnetgroup/ #ptbnet2018 Also: www.facebook.com/TBnet

Thank so much the organizing committee, the management of ptbnet for the great conference! Thank you for attention to the problem of childhood TB! We wait for a new meeting!” “Great presentations on PK/PD issues, on critical concentrations and mutations, on clinical trials for kids. Many thanks. Looking forward for follow up actions and regular updates. Suggest cross fertilization with “adult” meetings and documents.” “I thought that the meeting was excellent. I’ve been to lots of TB meetings over the years and this was one of the best. The speakers were all top-quality and the audience was very interested and engaged.
