We are a consortium of leading UK universities dedicated to giving international students guaranteed access to universities worldwide and helping students succeed when they get there.

NCUK Qualifications

NCUK specialises in helping international students take the next step in their academic career. We offer a range of high quality qualifications designed in collaboration with our university partners:

International Foundation Year (IFY)

Guaranteed Access to Thousands of University Degrees

A qualification designed to prepare students for first year entry to thousands of undergraduate degree courses. Its purpose is to help bridge the gap between a student’s local qualification and starting a university degree. The IFY standard qualification takes 9 months to complete, with longer and shorter options available at some Study Centres. Students are assessed by 70% exams and 30% coursework and all assessments are set by a team of NCUK subject experts.

Students who successfully complete the IFY gain guaranteed access to thousands of degree courses at NCUK universities, with worldwide study opportunities in the USA, UK and Australia also available – see page 8.

Universities worldwide and NARIC (National Recognition Information Centre), the leading UK qualification recognition agency, formally recognises the NCUK IFY as comparable to A-level. That’s one of the reasons why 90% of NCUK students get into their first choice university.

International Year One (IYOne)

Advanced Access to the 2nd Year of a University Degree

The International Year One (IYOne) is a credit bearing qualification that enables students guaranteed access to enter the second year of an undergraduate degree at 10 NCUK universities:

The IYOne offers options in Accounting & Finance, Business Management, Events Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering that lead to hundreds of degrees at a range of leading universities.

The IYOne is ideal for students who are looking to:

• Study locally for an extra year and gain 120 UK credits (equivalent to 60 ECTS credits) to transfer to a full UK degree;

• Experience an international learning environment and build up a global network of contacts;

• Benefit from smaller class sizes and personalised support before entering university.

Most modules are assessed by a combination of coursework and examination, with the exam accounting for at least 75% of the final mark. A small number of modules are assessed entirely by coursework. Upon successful completion of the IYOne students receive a certificate and transcript from NCUK showing that they have passed the qualification.

Pre-Masters Preparation

Complete Solution to Gaining your Master’s Degree

The Pre-Masters Preparation (PMP) qualification gives guaranteed access to thousands of postgraduate degrees at NCUK universities. The PMP is for students wanting to improve their English language level and ensure that they have the academic skills necessary to successfully complete a postgraduate degree in English.

There are three intakes a year for the PMP and the course can be studied in either 10 weeks, 20 weeks or 30 weeks based on a student’s English language level when applying.

Students studying the PMP qualification benefit from the NCUK Placement Support Service. They only submit one application and NCUK then sends their application to each of the student’s chosen universities on their behalf, as opposed to students having to apply directly to each university.

Full-Degree Completion in Country

Complete a Full UK Degree in China

Students can obtain a full UK degree whilst studying at The Sino British College (SBC) in Shanghai, China. Students register with NCUK for the first two years studying the International Foundation Year and the International Year One and then have the option of either going to an NCUK university or studying at SBC to complete their degree.

These courses are delivered by SBC staff and ‘flying faculty’ from UK universities. Students can also be awarded a dual degree from both the UK University as well as the University of Shanghai Science and Technology. See page 15 for more information.

Admissions and Placement Service

Our Admissions and Placement Service ensures that students get in to the most appropriate degree course at one of our universities. NCUK always acts in a student’s best interest. All students receive a guarantee of two conditional offers and one guaranteed place at NCUK universities. Students applying to other universities also benefit from this support.

NCUK Clearing Support Service

Our unique relationship with NCUK universities means we can offer an unrivalled Clearing Support Service. If a student does not meet the entry requirements for their first and second choice universities, NCUK will provide the student with a range of alternative courses in their area of interest at NCUK universities. Students receive a set of guaranteed offers when they receive their results. All they have to do is select the offer that they prefer and NCUK will take care of the rest.

The Sino-British College (SBC) |Shanghai,China

The Sino-British College (SBC) is an international university college established as a Joint Venture by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) and nine university members of NCUK – The University of Bradford, The University of Huddersfield, The University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University, Liverpool John Moores University, Manchester Metropolitan University, The University of Salford, The University of Sheffield & Sheffield Hallam University. SBC was established in September 2006 following approval by the Chinese Ministry of Education. It is one of the first transnational education (TNE) partnerships to be granted its second ten-year license.

Of the nine partner universities, three deliver UK degrees in Shanghai at SBC:

• BA (Hons) Events Management – the University of Huddersfield;• BA (Hons) Business Management – Sheffield Hallam University;• BEng (Hons) Industrial Electronics and Control Engineering and BEng (Hons) Manufacturing Systems
