full of useful information
for yourself and your
parent/guardians. It will tell
you everything you need
to know about taking the
next step and undertaking
your National Citizen
Service.
If after reading this you are
still unclear about any
parts of the programme
please do contact us. The
numbers of the Resonate
Hants coordinators are
on the back of your
information pack.
We hope you are as
excited as we are about
this summer’s NCS
programme!
NCS is made up of three main sections:
Get Active, Get Involved and Make a difference.
In completing all three challenges you will:
Try new things
Meet new people
Gain Independence
Build friendships
Make a difference
YOUR NCS PROMGRAMME
I didn’t know surfing was
my favourite sport until I
gave it a go.
WEEK 1: GET ACTIVEDuring your first week of NCS you
will spend a week away in Cornwall
or Devon. Each day you will be
challenged in different ways by
undertaking exciting new activities such as:
SurfingCoasteering
Paddle BoardingClimbing
Mountain Biking
You’ll face individual challenges
but have the support of team
mates to help you overcome any
fears you may have. No team will
make it through this demanding
experiencing without mastering
the art of communication and
encouraging one another, making
lifelong friends along the way.
During the second week you’ll stay at Norman Court in West Tytherley. This week is based closer to your local community. Individuals and their teams will face the initial challenge of staying in accommodation whilst budgeting and catering for themselves – a real taste of independence. During this week your team will undertake a number of different workshops in order to learn skills that may help you with your social action project. These workshops could be based on any of the following:
The MediaSports CoachingMusic ProductionThe Performing ArtsFood Tech & CookeryPersonal Development
WEEK 2: GET INVOLVED
FREESleeping Bag
1 x Hoodie2 x T-shirts
During week 3 you will plan and fundraise for your social action.
Your leaders will be on hand to help, but it is up to the teams themselves
to decide what to do, plan how to do it and present the idea to a panel of
experts. Once your team’s idea has been given the go ahead, you will be
supported to help develop the skills required to execute your social
action project. Example projects include:
Regenerating gardens
Renovating care homes
Supporting a terminally ill child’s wish
Painting and decorating a children’s home
Creating a charity single
The delivery part of this week for your social action project is when you put your plan into action. Gardening, recording, painting, decorating, building and much much more. This is the part where you make a difference.
GRADUATIONOnce the hard part is over you’ll be invited back to your graduation mid September to celebrate your achievements with your fellow graduates. You’ll receive a signed certificate from The Prime Minister and a free memorabilia book full of photos and memories from the summer. It will be a celebration where you will be entertained and have many videos and photos showcasing your NCS experience.
WEEK 3: MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The NCS journey doesn’t stop there.
As an Ambassador you will take your NCS experience to the next level. You will getaccess to The Opportunity Hub - a gatewayfor graduates to access a range of different opportunities.
Ongoing NCS involvement can enhanceskills, help you get work and potentially leadto international travel. Best of all it helps youto keep making a difference to your local community.
AMBASSADOR SCHEME
During the first week you’ll be staying in
Cornwall or Devon. Your second week
will take place at Norman Court in West
Tytherley.
I was dreading camping so
much! By the end of the
second week I’d asked my
Dad to buy me a tent.
WHERE AM I STAYING ?
We will provide all specialist equipment such as wetsuits, surfboards,
helmets and lifejackets. You only need to bring personal belongings
(if you have your own full length wet suit feel free to bring it). You will be

wear your NCS tops whenever you are outside of your accommodation.
Please take this into consideration when packing. Also consider the

Remember this is not a fashion show. Don’t bring your expensive designer clothing.
Bring warm and practical clothing.
During the first week, every meal will be provided for you, apart from lunch on the

a packed lunch in a bag that you can throw away or money so you can buy
lunch on route. You will not require any money from this point onwards.
However, there will be times when you’ll be given the option to buy ice cream and
snacks, therefore feel free to bring a small amount of money if you wish.
You are allowed to bring your mobile phone and you will be able to use it when activities are NOT taking place. Please note that you will be spending a large amount of time on the beach and/or around water. Your phone will become solely your responsibility.
Also consider the fact that you will be in the countryside and mobile reception will be very poor. You will also be camping so please be aware that you may not be able to charge your phone.
