bilang NCPAG o ang National College of Public Administration and Governance.

(General Education) subject man

Bayan.

Mabuhay ka at

mabuhay ang UP-NCPAG!

grades in Midterm Exam for it can excuse you from taking the Finals. Maximize also the incentives that

she might give. Lastly, if you think that single absence has no effect on your grades, well, think again. In

her classes, that one absence can break your aspiration of getting high grades. Pramis!

Our Lecturers

Prof. Zita Concepcion P. Calugay

Papers and Exams matter most in her class. Many students fail in her exam due to

overwhelming number of presentations needed to review. So, you must really exert effort

reviewing all of them and as early as you can. Your paper will also contribute a big chunk in

your final grade. Kaya galinganmorinrito!

integration and applications of all the discussions in class. He will also require you to report

and submit papers. He provides incentives through reaction papers.

Prof. Bernard G.Jimenez

Papers and Exams are the two major requirements of Sir Jimenez class. In exams, taking notes,

reading, and listening to every details that Sir is explaining to class will be useful. Excel in the

Page 15: NCPAG PAkilala

Every student worth his or her salt must know how to take good notes. More often, exams questionsare not found in the voluminous prescribed readings, but from discussions and those conceptswritten by the professor on the board. There are professors who allow their students to copy their presentation slides; there are those whodon’t. Either way, it is important for students to know how to take down good notes. Such a skill willhelp you not only with your exams, but also in other things in life.1. Understand the lesson first by consulting the course syllabus.Course syllabi are there for apurpose: to provide students with a roadmap to understand where the course is heading. A goodsyllabus will contain the course objectives, the professor’s house rules and expectations, his or hergrading scale, course references, and a calendar for the academic year. When you understand thesyllabus, you would know the topics to be discussed in the following meetings. Therefore you willhave an idea about the kinds of notes you should be writing in the following days.2. Consult the references cited in the course syllabus. One thing you have to understand about UPeducation is that there are no textbooks here. Professors may prescribe certain texts as references, but this does not preclude you from consulting other texts. In a research-intensive program such asPublic Administration, the common saying, “The more, the merrier”, applies to reference materials. That being said, you need to consult the reference materials prescribed in the syllabus, so that youwill have an idea about the length of the topic to be discussed, the general subjects that will bediscussed about a particular topic, and the concepts and ideas related to that topic. That way, yournote-taking is purposive, not merely an exercise of useless and random pen strokes, mimicking whatthe professor is saying or writing.3. Listen actively. Note-taking is not merely writing down what the professor is saying, or what he orshe is writing on the board. It’s also about understanding his or her points, and making sure that thenotes you are writing down are logically sound. This skill requires active listening, being attentive towhat the speaker is talking about.4. Use a mind-map. This one works for me. A mind-map is a graphical representation of developing asingle concept by writing down the attributes of that particular concept. Mind-maps are prettyuseful because they don’t only show facts, but also provides you an understandable structure ofrelated concepts. The following are the steps in making a mind map:4.1 Write the title of the subject you’re exploring in the center of the page, and draw a circlearound it.4.2 As you come across major subdivisions or subheadings of the topic (or important facts thatrelate to the subject) draw lines out from this circle. Label these lines with these subdivisions orsubheadings.4.3 As you uncover another level of information (further subheadings, or individual facts) belongingto the subheadings above, draw these as lines linked to the subheading lines.5. Verify your notes with the reference materials. This is one effective way of reviewing your notes inpreparation for your exams. Once you have written your notes, review them together with thereference materials to validate what you’ve written. Yes, I understand that this sounds tedious. Butmore often, if you’re able to take good notes, and you verify them with the texts, you will see somegaps that the professors may have omitted. You can actually clarify these gaps from your professors. That’s instant points for recitation! So you’ve hit three birds with one stone: (1) you organized yournotes, (2) you reviewed for your exams, and (3) you asked questions, and thus, were able toparticipate in the recitation!A word of caution: What works for some may not work for others. These tips have worked for me(so far). You might have other note-taking tips that may work for you. Bottomline: Do what works! The primary objective of good note-taking is to produce understandable and logical notes that willserve you well come exam time.

Tita long's food service- Syempre tangkilikin ang sariling atin. Medyo may kamahalan nga lang. 60 for

rice with viand.

Try their dishes served on a sizzling plate.

Hehe. May 3 kang choices dito: ang ROC o

restaurant of choice, ang Trigo, at syempre ang beloved Chocolate Kiss or chockiss for short. The desserts in chockiss are a must-try, pati ang bottomless iced tea nila.

UP. Seryoso!

kainan, yung University Food Service. Aside from their sandwiches and sizzling plates, meron din sila ng inyong paboritong ice cream!

CASAA- Dito ka makakakita ng ninja. Swear! Ganon sila kagaling, di mo iisiping ninja sila.

Katag- This is short for Kainan at Tagpuan. Sa basement 'to ng Faculty Center. Kung ipaghalo mo yung CSWCD caf at yung Tita Long's natin, Katag ang lalabas. Pero dinaman sadya.

Nismed- Kung galing kang math o CS at naglalakad ka papuntang AS, ito yung nasa kantobago mag AS sa kaliwa. Kenneth's foodstore, pero mas kilala bilang NISMED. Aircondito kaso mahina signal ng cellphone. Reasonably priced naman yung pagkain kasimasarap naman talaga. Nagbebenta din sila ng ice cream dito!

Cs canteen- One of the 2 canteens in campus that serves Mongolian Rice, yung ikaw yungmagtitimpla. Take your pick, parehong masarap!

Page 19: NCPAG PAkilala

***Kung medyo adventurous ka naman, go out of the campus and explore our neighboring tambayans.

Explore this avenue.

Maginhawa- Mag-ikot jeep hanggang lagpas C. P. Garcia at bumaba doon sa may parke't playground tapos tricycle nalang o kaya lakarin niyo angMaginhawa. It's worth going out of your way for.

Syempre, don't limit yourselves to the places we've mentioned here. Go and do some exploring of your own. You'd be amazed by how diverse our campus really is. Enjoy the vicinity pero syempre wag masyado. Studyante parinnaman kayo na maglilingkod sa sambayanan.
