• mobility of people and goods = 30% of the total energy consumption in the EU – applying ICT = over 25% reduction in greenhouse gas

(GHG) emissions in transport

• the logistics sector is largely inefficient today with load factors around 65% only– We need to ensure:

• open platforms for transport logistics, based on intelligent cargo systems

• interoperable global standardised services• the capability to choose the best transport mode

requires easy-to-use information services • mobility of people and goods across borders

Significant improvements in efficiency and environmental friendliness of mobility and transport in Europe; target: 25% reduction in GHG emissions in transport

Widening the market for new ICT-based mobility and transport services in Europe and worldwide.
