Renowned Canadian concert pianist, David Jalbert, returns to Brock with a program of solo piano works by Bach, Schumann, Liszt and Fauré. The recital will conclude with Prokofi ev’s monumental Sonata No. 7, Op. 33 in B fl at major.

This concert features songs from Amanda Martinez’s latest album celebrating freedom of all kinds. Amanda Martinez is a Canadian based singer/songwriter whose music exultingly blends her unique Mexican and South African roots with fl amenco soul.

Quartet for the End of Time performed by the After Hours Quartet

The main focus of this concert will be Olivier Messiaen’s ethereal Quartet for the End of Time. Written in 1941, in a German prison camp for an ad hoc ensemble of fellow prisoners, Messiaen’s eight-movement work is scored for violin, clarinet, cello and piano. The composer interleaves representations of birdsong from around the camp with visions of the apocalypse from the Bible – juxtaposing the everyday with the eternal, to chilling effect.
