▪ The SDG 6 – Ensure availability and
sustainable management of water
and sanitation for all – reflects the
increased attention on water and
sanitation issues in the global
political agenda.
▪ Other SDGs with specific water-
related targets are also critical for
achieving SDG 6 by 2030.
WATER-RELATED SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT WITHIN 2030 AGENDA
CURRENT STATUS OF SDG 6
SDG 6 Synthesis Report (July 2018) confirms that:
• The world at large is lagging in achieving
SDG 6.
• Less than half of the UN Member States have
comparable data available on the status of
progress made towards SDG 6 targets.
• There is a lack of tools related to the Means
of Implementation (6.a and 6.b) to track and
achieve SDG 6 targets and indicators.
• Business as usual means SDG 6 will be
missed in 2030.

CURRENT NEEDS FOR SDG 6
• Develop interventions that work in data-limited
conditions and facilitate decision making for
accelerated achievement of SDG 6.
• Strengthen and realign enabling environments as a
Means of Implementation for SDG 6.
• Provide a collaboration platform to help countries
improve their data analysis, reporting and progress
toward achieving SDG 6 and other water-related SDG
targets.
NAVIGATING THROUGH LIMITED DATA
• Developed by a multi-institutional
team, the Sustainable
Development Goal 6 Policy
Support System (SDG-PSS)
draws on tools, processes, and
practices that are commonly
used for water-related
management at the national and
international levels.
• Available at: http://sdgpss.net/en/
• SDG-PSS is organized around six critical components along with a component ‘Status’.
• These components are built on the basis of more than 20 well-established tools, processes and practices.
• SDG-PSS is an online system where countries can enter data, information, and/or trends and translate them into “fit-for-policy” evidence.

QUESTIONNAIRES REPORTING
TRANSITIONING FROM EXCEL TO ONLINE SYSTEM
• Initially, SDG-PSS was developed in Excel.
• In late 2018, SDG-PSS was migrated to an
online system, which is freely available to all:
• English version launched on WWD in March 2019.
• French version available since June 2019.
• Spanish version to be available in October 2019.
FACILITATING THE USE OF SDG-PSS
• Self-paced e-course on SDG-PSS
available online to all potential users.
• Addresses capacity building for
systematic and effective use of SDG-
PSS.
• Provides training on how to use this
system to produce evidence on the
enabling environment for achieving
SDG 6.

KEY ELEMENTS OF E-COURSE
• E-course participants understand the objectives and role of SDG-PSS in SDG 6 achievement.
• They learn to navigate through SDG-PSS pages and its components.
• They generate and analyze evidence on the national progress on the achievement of SDG 6.
• Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate of course completion.
SDG-PSS IN KEY REFERENCES AND NEWS
SDG-PSS is
highlighted in the
Global Guidance for
SDG 6 Monitoring as a
potential analytical tool
to support national
level,
cross-sectoral,
evidence-based,
policymaking and
planning.

SDG-PSS IN KEY REFERNCES AND NEWS
SDG-PSS featured in more
than 15 water-related news
websites during official
launch in March 2019.
SDG-PSS SUMMARIZED
• SGD-PSS gives country water professionals, managers and policy makers a
precise view of the data that is missing in their national processes and guides
them in gathering and analyzing the relevant data, information, and trends to
deliver on SDG 6 targets.
• It is a strategic tool that encourages cooperation between agencies and water
research community in a joint policy development process.
• SDG-PSS has the potential to become a powerful knowledge sharing platform
for learning between countries – as all data and information are presented in
common formats using a common set of SDG 6 indicators.
• It can be tailored to address the requirements of other SDGs.
SDG-PSS IN 2019-2020
• Engaging more countries through
regional hubs; around 40
countries
• Conducting SDG-PSS training
(e-course)
• Continue receiving feedback on
SDG-PSS and its finetuning
• Facilitating decision making to
support SDG 6 achievement at
the national level.
