Can I get credit for that?
• Advanced Placement (AP)
• International Baccalaureate (IB)
• CLEP
• Official scores must be sent directly to Michigan Tech from the
appropriate testing agency. Our school code for AP scores is
1464
• Any course schedule changes resulting from the receipt of AP,
IB, or CLEP credit will be made by the Registrar's Office
College Credit
• Dual Enrollment/Early College
• Youth Options Program
• PSEO
• Credit granted for appropriate courses (the class must also be one that
regular college students can take)
• Must have earned a grade of “C” or higher in the class(es)
• Official transcripts must be sent directly from all colleges
• Any course schedule changes resulting from the transfer of credit will be
made by the Registrar's Office
Math Placement
To place you in the most appropriate math course, Michigan Tech requires
incoming students without qualifying AP, IB, or CLEP scores or earned college-
level math credit to take the online ALEKS Placement Assessment
• The ALEKS Placement Assessment covers material from basic math through
pre-calculus. The cost is $25 plus tax ($26.50)
• It will take approximately 90 minutes to complete
• You must access the assessment online, from any computer, through your
MyMichiganTech account
• We will also be sending you a survey through your MyMichiganTech account
to verify your math status, and whether you should take the assessment test
Math Placement Test
• Who has to take the ALEKS Placement Assessment?
• Incoming first-year students who are not planning to take the AP Calculus, IB Higher Level
Mathematics, or CLEP Pre-calculus or Calculus exam
• Incoming first-year and transfer students who are not receiving college math credit for
College Algebra, Pre-Calculus or Calculus
• Incoming first-year students who earn a 1 on the AP Calculus exam, below a 5 on the IB
Higher Level Calculus exam, or below a 50 on the CLEP Pre-calculus or Calculus exam
• When? ALEKS must be taken between May 1-June 30
Math Placement Test
• Students who are planning on taking the AP Calculus exam or IB
Higher Level Mathematics exam
• We generally receive the test results in early July
• Students who scored a 1 on the AP Calculus exam or below a 5
on the IB Mathematics exam, will take the ALEKS Placement
Assessment between July15-31

There is a session today on ALEKS and Math Placement. It takes
place at:

Computer Science Placement Test
• All students in Computer Science, Software Engineering and Computer
Engineering will take the assessment test online in June.
• Students typically start in CS1121 – Introduction to Computer Science I
• Helps determine if you should take the accelerated introductory computer
science course, CS1131 – Computer Science I
• Students in other majors may also take the assessment test and should
contact the Computer Science Department to make arrangements for taking
the test

Modern Language Placement Test
• If you plan to continue studying French, German, or Spanish, you
must take the placement test to ensure you are placed at the
appropriate level of study (unless a score of 3 or higher is earned
on the AP language exam)
• Take online at any time or during Orientation
• Credit is awarded after a grade of “B” or higher is earned in a
validation course
• There is no cost for the exam
SCHEDULING
• Michigan Tech’s Registrar’s Office will schedule all students in
mid-July. Transfer students with 30 or more credits can
schedule anytime after 11:00pm on Sunday, March 25
• Final touches to your schedule will be done during Orientation
Week
ORIENTATION
• Move in weekend—Saturday, August 25 or Sunday, August
26
• Program starts on Sunday, August 26
• Transfer student Orientation is Friday, August 31
• More information will be sent during the Spring/Summer
Enrollment Deposit
• $100 enrollment deposit due May 1
– Pay online through MyMichiganTech (Banweb)
– Mail check or money order
– On campus in the Student Financial Services Center (11:30 AM to 3:30 PM
today)
– Must be paid in order to complete the Housing Contract
• Fully refundable through May 1
• Incoming students intending to enroll for fall 2018 in engineering
or engineering management are required to have a laptop for
in-class instruction in required engineering fundamentals courses
(this does not include students in software engineering)
