Selec?ng  and  Recording  the  lesson:

5

Choosing  a  Lesson  to  record

-‐  Reflects  a  balance  of  teaching  lower-‐order  knowledge  and  skills  (e.g.,  facts,  skills,  procedures,  conven?ons)  and  higher-‐order  knowledge  or  thinking  skills

-‐  Fosters  student  engagement

Choosing  your  segments  in  your  submission

Show  how  you  structure  learning  ac&vi&es,  tasks,  or  discussions  to  engage  students  in  developing  their  own  understandings  of  the  content  and  how  you  further  your  students’  knowledge  and  skills  by  ac?vely  elici?ng  and  monitoring  their  understanding  while  teaching.    Show  student  engagement  in  the  learning  ac&vi&es.  The  individual  voices  of  students  working  should  be  audible  so  that  the  observer  can  hear  their  engagement.

Before  recording:  Explain  the  purpose  of  the  video  to  your  students  before  recording,  and  remind  students  that  they  should  try  to  ignore  the  camera.  Candidates  must  make  a  good  faith  effort  to  obtain  the  necessary  consent  forms  from  any  par?es  who  will  be  recorded.  A  sample  consent  form  can  be  found  on  the  Resources  Page.  These  forms  will  not  be  uploaded  to  the  submission  system  but  may  be  collected  at  a  later  date.

Uploading  and  Segmen?ng  Videos

6

 1.  Use  the  NEW  web-‐based  media  uploader  for  videos  that  are  smaller  than  1.5  GB.  With  the  web-‐based  uploader,  candidates  can  upload  videos  directly  to  the  submission  system  from  their  mobile  devices.  Candidates  must  use  the  downloadable  media  uploader  for  videos  that  are  more  than  1.5  GB.    2.  Do  not  upload  pre-‐edited  videos  to  the  submission  system.  The  raw  footage  of  the  classroom  must  be  uploaded.  Candidates  typically  upload  anywhere  from  20-‐60  minutes  of  footage  and  then  use  the  segmen?ng  tool  to  iden?fy  2  segments  that  together  are  between  2-‐15  minutes  in  length.  Just  the  submifed  segments  are  scored.      3.  Save  video  files  as  MOV  or  MP4  files:  While  our  system  accepts  most  AVI  files,  we  have  found  that  some  AVI  files  were  not  accepted  last  year.      4.  Use  the  Video  Previewer  in  the  online  submission  system  to  review  evidence  before  submi_ng  tasks  to  ensure  that  evidence  is  in  the  correct  orienta&on,  viewable,  audible  and  legible.

See  Appendix  F:  Uploading,  Segmen&ng,  and  Submi_ng  Evidence  Reference  Guide  (Video,  Audio,  and  PDFs)

Trouble  shoo?ng  ?ps  from  the  Help  Desk:  Dropbox

DropBox  is  a  work-‐around  for  candidates  who  are  experiencing  difficulty  uploading  their  videos  and  served  6%  of  candidates  for  Task  1.  It  is  a  plaoorm  by  which  you  can  share  your  video  with  the  help  desk,  and  they  can  upload  your  video  to  your  media  library.  If  you  have  exhausted  all  op?ons  for  video  upload,  please  contact  the  help  desk.  DropBox  may  take  a  few  days  to  process  at  the  Help  Desk.  Begin  your  video  upload  process  as  soon  as  possible  to  see  if  the  Dropbox  work-‐around  is  required.

AVer  determining  that  the  DropBox  video  transfer  is  necessary,  the  help  desk  will  send  you  an  invita?on  to  provide  your  video  to  the  folder  created  for  you  by  the  help  desk.

Page 10: Naviga&ng(Task3(of(the(Ohio(RESA · Agenda 2 (1. Lessons(learned(from(the(Task1(submission(process((2. (Overview(of(Task3(3. Dropbox(messaging(and(work arounds((4. Remember(to(push(submit!(

DropBox  Reminders  for  Video  Upload  •  If  you  are  already  a  Dropbox  user,  make  sure  you  are  first  logged  out  of

DropBox  when  you  open  the  email  invita?on  from  the  help  desk.    •  If  you  are  using  dropbox  for  the  first  ?me,  please  note  that  you  do  not

need  to  download  DropBox,  and  rather  click  on  the  link  marked  “DropBox  website”  aVer  you  click  on  the  link.

•  From  there,  you  will  see  “Dropbox  >  4  digit  number  >  Your  first  and  last  name”  at  the  top  of  the  webpage.  This  shows  that  you  are  in  the  shared  dropbox  that  the  help  desk  can  access.  Do  not  upload  your  video  to  any  other  folder.

•  Upload  video  (not  the  shortcut  to  the  video!)  from  there.  •  Make  sure  that  you  do  not  close  any  windows  while  the  upload  process

is  underway  and  that  you  have  a  strong  connec?on  to  make  sure  that  the  upload  process  goes  smoothly.

•  Once  the  upload  is  complete,  you  will  be  able  to  view  it  and  check  to  make  sure  the  video  plays  with  sound  and  visual  issues.

•  Alert  the  help  desk  at  [email protected]  that  your  video  has  been  uploaded.  If  you  do  not  hear  back  from  them  in  2  business  days,  follow  up  and  with  an  email  asking  for  a  status  check  on  your  DropBox  upload.

Checking  your  work:  PDF  previewer  tool

11

Use  the  PDF  Previewer  in  the  online  submission  system  to    review  evidence  before  submi]ng  tasks  to  ensure  that  evidence  is  viewable,  legible,  and  does  not  contain  Personally  Iden?fiable  Informa?on.                      è  Last  year,  there  were  a  number  of  candidates  who  were  penalized  for  PII  violaHons  or  for  uploading  illegible  or  not  viewable  PDFs.  Had  they  used  the  PDF  preview  tool  to  check  their  work,  they  could  have  caught  their  errors  and  their  tasks  would  have  been  scored.  Don’t  let  this  happen  to  you  this  year.
